GeForce 6800 - how good for FS?

Featured Replies

Has anybody seen any numbers or impressions of display quality for the new generation cards in Flight Sim yet? I am never sure which of the standard benchmarks & games that reviewers use actually mean anything here.

Tom's Hardware has used MSFS2004 as a benchmark in the past so keep an eye on them. Other then that just look at Direct 3D performance over a number of applications. Driving sims probubly come closest to the kind of load MSFS generates but keep an open mind and compare the performance against the card you're running now, if it's listed. Also pay attention to the screen res. and image enhancements that are used for each test. I'm sure there will be advantages with this new card but you'll need the fastest CPU's to really get the most out of it. TonyDigital-Flight

Hi ChrisE,To be honest, I would wait until ATI comes out with ITS latest card as also mentioned in Tom's hardware guide website (www.tomshardware.com) as ATI may be able to beat the GE FORCE 6800. Lately, NVidia and ATI have been in a struggle and are "leapfrogging" each other in terms of performance - one comes out with a card, then the other comes out with a better one. Besides, I have heard that ATI has better image quality then NVIDIA.Just thought you might want to wait ... also, the prices would be to high. I bought my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB last December and the price had just dropped over $100...John
