Aerostar 700

Featured Replies

Has anyone flown Mike Smith's Aerostar 700 ?I think it is a fantastic plane except I have a problem getting to altitude. Around 20,000 ft. I cannot get any engine power, the manifold pressure drops, and so does my airspeed.I have tried adjusting the props and mixture, but it doesn't seem to help.Any suggestions please,ThanksSeth . . .

Sounds like you're hitting the cervice cieling. The drop in manifold pressure is the kicker. The higher the altitude the thinner the air, which is why the MP is sluffing off on you. Once it dipps low enough, the RPM will follow on constant speed props. The airspeed will drop with the loss of power as well as the inibility to push enough air to keep speed. How high is it supposed to go for a service ceiling? If it's supposed to climb higher, it's an issue with the airfile or aircraft.cfg.-John S. No matter what the name of the country on whose land it lies, an airport is a place you can see and touch that leads to a reality that can only be thought and felt." - The Bridge Across Forever: A Love Story by Richard Bach

My understanding of an Aerostar 700 is that it uses a pair of turbocharged 540 Lycoming engines, which should give out enough compressed air for 25,000 ft service ceiling and 300+ kts. FSD-International (shameless plug) has a Piper Aerostar 700 in the makings if you fancy top-quality payware.
