May 31, 201214 yr I am following a tutorial "Terrain_Design_for_Flight_Simulator_X" and towards the end the Author talks about using GPS Hydro Polygons. I have read the piece over and over but I am still lost. I think the bits I am missing are actually, what are GPS Hydro Polygons, and what are they used for. Any clearing up on these questions, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)
May 31, 201214 yr It's quite complicated. These are polygons. They show when you bring up the GPS. The polys are for water areas, aka Hydro. There will be a test on this, soon... These can be less detailed polygons than what's shown in-game. The GPS doesn't need to get down to extreme levels of detail, so giving it simpler polys to render helps take a load off of FSX.

So if I use the HGX poly around my island rather than the HPX poly, this would work out just fine, ever better on a performance angle?
May 31, 201214 yr Author Ok so that clearly did not work. lol. I just change a 1641_Pts_Hydro_Generic_Ocean_Perennial polygon to a GPS_Hydro polygon and got land.
May 31, 201214 yr The GPS Hydro Polygons serve a different purpose from the normal Hydro Polygons. The normal version should be as detailed as you wish and will display in game, i.e. when flying over them. The GPS version only display in the Moving Map. The reason for these Polygons is that the Moving Map will no longer need to use high-detailed Hydro Polygons, therefore improving the performance of the Map, and of the game overall. So, the GPS Hydro Polygons should be drawn in a simpler manner with less detail. Please note that I was not able to confirm that the game displays user-made GPS Hydro Polygons in the Moving Map. While I did include them and their description in the tutorial, I cannot guarantee that this function is working correctly. Best regards. Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
May 31, 201214 yr Author Thanks you Luis. I was told else where that there are problems with the GPS Hydro Polygons and compiling them and all that so I will not use them if I don`t have to.
