June 22, 201213 yr Hi, I have a rig I built back in 2009. It has been on a deployment with me to Iraq (did not want to go a year with no FSX) and I think its time to replace some things. I replaced the motherboard about 2 months ago because the old one bit the dust. A few months before this I had to replace the GPU. Got one free from a friend. I have never OC before and I am thinking it is about time. I would take it to someone but where I am stationed I cant find anyone that can do it. So trying to decide if I should replace the CPU I have now and then OC or use the 965 I have. I have a lot of add on's for my FSX and want more performance. Based on my PC Specs where should I go, what should I upgrade? I know intel would be the best route but I really dont want to have to buy a new MB to make the switch so gonna stick with AMD. Windows 7 64bit, Corsair Vengeance DDR3 Ram 12GB, EVGA GTX760 2GB, Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 motherboard, Intel i5 2500k 3.3GHz (OC 4.4GHz), Corsair H80 liquid cooler, Coolermaster Elite 430 case.
June 23, 201213 yr Welcome to Avsim! With a cooler like that overclocking is obviously a good option. You should be able to hit some 3.8 - 4GHz. Other than that, you could try the bufferpools=0 tweak if you haven't already
June 23, 201213 yr Author Thanks for the reply. I am having issues OCing. I before I replace my old MSI MB I had the CPU OC to 3.8 and it was stable. Ever since I got my new Asus board I have not been able to OC. Even the slightest OC and the computer blue screens. I have no idea why it is doing this.
