May 21, 200422 yr Flying over a large area in Northern Quebec (Canada), I found a perfectly square area that is pushed into the earth, although it contains "mesas" with scenery elements. Just go to CYFJ, it is in the middle of this area. (approx 80 nm north of Montreal). The features (such as lakes and airports) float on top of huge plateaus, bounded by steep cliffs. The surrounding areas that don't have these features is all flat and maybe 500' to 600' lower, maybe sea level? At the edge of this area all around is a large perfectly square cliff. Outside of this the other areas are pefectly normal.I disabled all the add-on scenery I had, in case there was some sort of issue that way, didn't make a difference.Anyone know what this might be?* Orest Orest Skrypuch President & CEO, UVA www.united-virtual.com
May 21, 200422 yr Commercial Member Howdy, sounds like a corrupt add-on mesh file that sets everything, except for the fixed-elevation lakes and airfields, to sealevel. This can happen if people compile SRTM-based add-on mesh with SRTM2BGL without using a complete set of tiles (and distributing them without error-checking in TMFViewer).Anyway, check whether you have any add-on mesh installed. Some of Rob Gainer's earlier files had those problems but there might be others. And don't limit your search to "local" mesh files, the file can be made for an area far away (Rob's first "Alaska" mesh flattened the entire US!).Good luck, and let us know who the "culprit" is.Cheers, Holger
May 21, 200422 yr Author That makes good sense.OK, will do. I have a couple of meshes. I didn't think to delist non-local meshes.I'll try disabling them and check back here with the results.Thanks.* Orest Orest Skrypuch President & CEO, UVA www.united-virtual.com
May 22, 200422 yr Author Here is the culprit, I originally got it elsewhere, but I see it posted more recently here. Too bad, as it is a nice mesh. Perhaps David will fix it?* Orest(causes a large depressed square area in Northern Quebec)Category: Flight Simulator 2004 - ScenerySouthern Ontario Canada LOD 9 Mesh Images related to this file: * sontmesh-1.jpg * sontmesh-2.jpg * sontmesh-3.jpg File Description:The default mesh for Southern Ontario Canada was pretty flat and did not show the small rolling hills that are present throughout the province. This is LOD9 (90 meter) mesh that covers ALL of Southern Ontario from Elliot Lake, Sudbury and North Bay in the North, to near Montreal in the east, to Windsor in the southwest and all points in between. This mesh covers the entire area of Ontario shown in the Toronto VNC.Please note that I forgot to cut the one side of the screenshots so the right side of the image is what was present on my second monitor which in the first two pictures was my background.Filename: sontmesh.zipLicense: Freeware, limited distributionAdded: 16th January 2004Downloads: 1939Author: David VoogdSize: 42374kb Orest Skrypuch President & CEO, UVA www.united-virtual.com
