June 25, 201213 yr Hi. I know the "K" isn't there for nothing but my budget will only let me to get i5 2500K with H61 Mobo, which is not the correct one for OCing. So until I get a decent cooler and motherboard, how will i5 2500k run fsx with stock speed? EDIT: oh I am using my old 9800GT 1GB and 4GB of RAM. I know, can't build this fsx rome in a day Thank You
June 25, 201213 yr I run FSX with an I7 at stock speed, and that one does okay. I should think an I5 would too. Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
June 25, 201213 yr Yes, everyone I've seen here at AVSIM who have the i5 2500K are very pleased with this CPU. Look over in the Hardware forum or do a search in the Hardware forum for i5 2500K and you should see several posts on this CPU. Best regards, Jim

Yes this should be in Hardware Forum, sorry about that, I just thought I could get faster responses, and I did. I am just wondering, even a very fast sandybridges' quad core still needs to be overclocked to run a 6 year old sim with smooth fps. The i5 2500K was made last year still, they have to tweak it. Thanks

FSX is even bringing some Ivy Bridge systems to their knees but you really do not have to max your sliders to enjoy FSX. Modest settings work well too and increase the enjoyability (is that a word?). I have my overclocking set to 4.4GHz and that works for me. I had it at 4.8GHz and it really didn't look much better or run better but I do look forward to the CPU that will run at 5.0 GHz right out of the box. Best regards, Jim
June 25, 201213 yr Thanks Al. Can I know how many fps you get? Would you ever try to overclock it? I've not averse to overclocking it, I just don't feel the need to do so. I have the frame rate locked to 20 fps, and it manages that with the detail cranked up, so I'm happy enough with that. Of course you can bring any computer to its knees if you start going mental with the detail and running millions of fancy add-ons, so one thing that does help with FSX, is plenty of RAM for all those other things we run alongside FSX. Al That's what I wanted to hear, an (rare?) experienced simmer like you Al, who is not fond of overclocking, relieving that is., sounds selfish perhaps but glad you said it. Okay, I'm technically wrong posting this hardware related in FSX forum, but you both have been very helpful and you got my points taken. Thanks.
