June 1, 200422 yr Now that the SDKs have been released, I would love to see a Special Effects add-on (i.e. wing-tip vortices, effects of thrust on wet runways etc), all automatically detected and activated by using XML programing.-I just don't have the talent to do it myself.
June 2, 200422 yr I agree that these effects would be nice additions for the sim.I do want to dispel the notion that this requires talent. Not.What it does require is ambition, desire to be creative, and determination to find the tools, learn how to apply them, and go to work.Developing knowledge and skills is what it takes, not talent. Anyone of average intelligence can do it.If you like being creative, this is an excellent hobby in which to contribute. There are many areas to peak the interest. Now that's cleared up, let's have a contest for who can create the best prop effects for inclimate runways, concrete, slag, grass or dirt. :-)
June 2, 200422 yr Commercial Member Howdy, well spoken, Milton - those words should be bold-faced and tied to an XML gauge that automatically pops up the text in a window everytime someone uses the "I don't have the talent" excuse ;-)For automatic ground effects, I posted a possible method a while back in this thread: http://www.flightsimmer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9344Don't know though whether there's a possibility to integrate this particular approach with weather detection (i.e., dry vs. wet) or surface type (dirt vs. grass vs. asphalt). Probably lack of talent...Cheers, Holger
June 2, 200422 yr Thanks Holger for that tip. :-)My point is really about the misconception that add-ons require talent, and was meant constructively. Everyone should be encouraged to try based on the real criteria. Given the desire and a bit of a nudge in the right direction, many here could be enjoying the creativity aspects of the hobby. Everyone benefits when many contribute. And who knows what worlds those new skills might open up. ;-)
