June 3, 200422 yr Hi everyone: I very recently decided to use a router rather than a hub for multiple computer connections to the Internet. Everything has worked out fine ... except that I can no longer multi-play in FS 2002 via the Internet. Since everything was "AOK" using the hub but is now "NOK" (that is, "Nothing OK")I can only assume that, somehow, Microsoft's multi-player function in FS 2002 (and perhaps other versions as well) just does not think much of routers. Is there any way around this condition ... or will I have to reinstall my hub if I want to multi-play on the Internet? Any advice will be very much appreciated. In addition to a forum response (which I might overlook in the huge bundle of other messages there), please advise me directly at the e-mail address shown immediately below. Many [email protected]
June 3, 200422 yr Hi, Couple of questions. What router is it? Does it have a built in Firewall? You may need to open some ports up on the router to allow the network traffic through.Let me know the answers to the questions and Ill have a better idea.CheersNik
June 3, 200422 yr For Nik: I'm using a four-port Soho router running through a Toshiba 1100 OU cable modem. My broadband Server is Cox Cable. No built-in firewall that I know of ... although I do have Norton Anti-virus installed on one of my PCs and AVG Anti-virus on another. But they don't seem to block anything ... except FS Multi-Play "cross-talk."Hopefully you can take it from there. For example, how do I "open some ports on the router to allow the network traffic through?" I gather you are referring to Multi-Play traffic since all other traffic (file uploads and downloads, e-mails, etc.) gets through just fine.Kindest [email protected]
June 4, 200422 yr Hi, I am not sure which router you are talking about! Soho is an acroynym for (Small Office/HOme) If you can let me know the make and model of the router, I'll let you know how to open the ports you need.CheersNik
June 4, 200421 yr Nik, I am also having trouble getting on Squawkbox through a Netgear Gateway router (Model RT314). I have looked at all the suggestions as to how to "open ports", but the Netgear configuration software for doing this does not (seem to) have the ports listed as they are in the suggestions (for example, I cannot identify the TCP and UDPs in the software). Any suggestions for me would be appreciated.Dave Hinson David Hinson
June 7, 200421 yr Dave, You will need to set up the filters in the RT314 to forward information on the following ports to the IP address of your FS machine:6809 - for Squawkbox TCP/UDP6703 for SBRelay (if Used) TCP/UDP1900/6073/23456 for Direct Play UDPftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/netgear1/rt3guide2.pdf if you go to this link and look in Chapter 10, it will explain how to set up the filters.Hope this helpsNik
