Hey all,

My intention is not to rip on Flight. It just wasn't for ME. I am glad though that it appealed to so many simmers here on the forums. I've been simming back to the Commodore 64 days, and have been a firm supporter through ProPilot, ATP, the SubLogic years, etc. through FSX.

MS really needs to consider FS11 (or whatever). Not a game, but obviously simmers love the whole world, gazillions of airports, aircraft, and the ability for heavy metal pilots to fly long distances. Not to mention the abundance of 3rd party developers that were brought into the mix. Hard core simmers want more. MS gambled and lost. Sure, Flight looked a bit (or more, dependent on your expectations) better than FSX, but I just couldn't get into the aerocaches and missions. I may be in the minority, but I want to fly a A320 from New Orleans to Tampa. Again, not ripping on Flight...it just wasn't for me.

I never thought I'd do it, but I bought an iMac and decided to retire my PC to my 10 year old daughter for schoolwork. My summing options were slashed. I bought XPlane 10 and AeroflyFS. AeroflyFS is what I consider next-gen graphically, fun to fly, runs smooth, but is limited to Swiss airspace. I like bells and whistles, too (weather, time of day, etc) and it doesn't really offer that. But still a heck of a lot of fun, and fun to see the future.

Xplane did not do it for me initially...what, not airport buildings? Aircraft bouncing around like crazy? BUT...wait for it...I am absolutely hooked now after giving it time. Plus, I don't mind the incremental beta updates...in fact, I like it. I downloaded TONS of free scenery, tweaked the sliders, bought some aircraft, and am loving the sim. You know those "wow" moments we get with FSX? I get tons of those with Xplane 10. Coming out of the soup and landing just pre-dawn, crossing a busy highway and seeing nothing but headlights and taillights and street lights, seeing the ultra-realistic (IMO) approach lighting, and all of this while the sun is just starting to poke up...classic. Now, it's not perfect...still far from it. Flight dynamics, ATC, etc are a couple of things which need tweaking. Plus, it's not FS. It's probably not as polished and user friendly. I think most FS simmers try Xplane and throw it out immediately because it's not FS. Tweak it...try it...you'll come to like it hopefully.

Well, just my .02 for the day. I'm really hoping MS gets it, and hires a new team to get started on FS13 or whatever. ; )

Have a good one!

Bob

Thanks for your opinion, although it's more an opinion about XPlane then Flight. However, you are a bit late: we've heard this all before and I really don't want yet another discussion about the same topic, so I am locking this one.
