Hi all! I installed 10.20b1 and for some strange reason, my keyboard will not work within X-Plane. I'm running an iMac, with OS version 10.8.2. Has anyone else run into this? Thanks! Bob Figured it out...sorry all. It's a known bug in some Macs starting in full screen. Bob

Could not get our host
Hi all, I am getting an error box when starting XP10 (rc3) (which I did not get prior to upgrading to rc3) which states "Could not get our host..." etc. I read at org that there is a fix for linux systems, but I am not a techie and have no clue how to do that fix. I am running XP10 on a new iMac, and am wondering if anyone else is experiencing this. SORRY in advance if this has already been discussed, as I have not had time to pour through the posts here. Many thanks!!! Bob

Night lighting - Runways, etc.
Thanks all for the info! Bob

Night lighting - Runways, etc.
Thanks much - I agree with you spot on. I preferred the lighting prior to this recent change, as I am not a fan of that omnidirectional lighting...especially flying in an urban area where you can pick up 30+ airports easily by just panning around the cockpit 360 degrees. I am really happy that they are tinkering around with this to find a happy medium, rather than saying "Done...you're stuck with it as-is". Great product.

Night lighting - Runways, etc.
Hi all! Am really, really loving X-Plane. My question is regarding night lighting. I am up to date with 10.10 RC3, and I've noticed that the airport lighting is brighter and were made to be more realistic. In my opinion, it is far too bright. I flew around the Chicago area last night, and could easily spot every airport (every runway direction) within 20 miles...even small private strips. One feature of X-Plane I've loved is the night lighting, and the realism in trying to find the airport, especially when you are parallel to runways. So, my question is (for rw pilots as well), is the night lighting realistic in your opinion? I am not a rw pilot, but it has been my understanding that runway lights are brighter when you are facing the runway head-on, and less bright when you are parallel to the runway. Awesome sim! Thanks in advance for your help! Bob

Wow, hate to say I saw that coming...but...
Hey all, My intention is not to rip on Flight. It just wasn't for ME. I am glad though that it appealed to so many simmers here on the forums. I've been simming back to the Commodore 64 days, and have been a firm supporter through ProPilot, ATP, the SubLogic years, etc. through FSX. MS really needs to consider FS11 (or whatever). Not a game, but obviously simmers love the whole world, gazillions of airports, aircraft, and the ability for heavy metal pilots to fly long distances. Not to mention the abundance of 3rd party developers that were brought into the mix. Hard core simmers want more. MS gambled and lost. Sure, Flight looked a bit (or more, dependent on your expectations) better than FSX, but I just couldn't get into the aerocaches and missions. I may be in the minority, but I want to fly a A320 from New Orleans to Tampa. Again, not ripping on Flight...it just wasn't for me. I never thought I'd do it, but I bought an iMac and decided to retire my PC to my 10 year old daughter for schoolwork. My summing options were slashed. I bought XPlane 10 and AeroflyFS. AeroflyFS is what I consider next-gen graphically, fun to fly, runs smooth, but is limited to Swiss airspace. I like bells and whistles, too (weather, time of day, etc) and it doesn't really offer that. But still a heck of a lot of fun, and fun to see the future. Xplane did not do it for me initially...what, not airport buildings? Aircraft bouncing around like crazy? BUT...wait for it...I am absolutely hooked now after giving it time. Plus, I don't mind the incremental beta updates...in fact, I like it. I downloaded TONS of free scenery, tweaked the sliders, bought some aircraft, and am loving the sim. You know those "wow" moments we get with FSX? I get tons of those with Xplane 10. Coming out of the soup and landing just pre-dawn, crossing a busy highway and seeing nothing but headlights and taillights and street lights, seeing the ultra-realistic (IMO) approach lighting, and all of this while the sun is just starting to poke up...classic. Now, it's not perfect...still far from it. Flight dynamics, ATC, etc are a couple of things which need tweaking. Plus, it's not FS. It's probably not as polished and user friendly. I think most FS simmers try Xplane and throw it out immediately because it's not FS. Tweak it...try it...you'll come to like it hopefully. Well, just my .02 for the day. I'm really hoping MS gets it, and hires a new team to get started on FS13 or whatever. ; ) Have a good one! Bob

Flying at night is DISGUSTINGLY Awesome.. BUT..
Night flying is amazing, but I've been saying this since day one. I, personally, believe the taxi lights are far, far too bright from far out. Can a real world pilot confirm this? I'm just going off of photos/videos of approaches. Should be a quick fix, no? Thanks! Bob

FLIGHT, Aerofly FS, etc - thoughts
Stan - spot on. IF the future includes weather and DLC, Aerofly FS will be a huge hit. I hope they know they have something great on their hands.

FLIGHT, Aerofly FS, etc - thoughts
Great replies, and spot on! I give Aerofly a nod because they are not MS, and do not have the marketing power MS does. Flight looks good, and is fun, but I prefer the visuals, shadows/lighting, and just overall different feel that Aerofly offers. It's not without it's faults tho, and it'll be interesting to see what the future holds. Where we're seeing and hearing there will be DLC for Flight, I'm not aware of Aerofly's future plans. You hit it on the head - Aerofly's shortcomings include day only...no precipitation...no ATC, radio's, etc. BUT, flying through the alps in the F-18 is absolutely magical and makes other sims look like childs play. The low and slow visuals are amazing as well. The autogen is placed well, and replicate the region well.I am running Aerofly on a 27' iMac (2011) and am getting 50+ fps. Xplane10 runs at about 25 fps on my mac, but around clouds down to around 10. Flight runs smooth on my old(er) PC.I don't think Aerofly will get hammered, because they are a small company who did an amazing job with their first sim (I'm guessing it's their first?) I think Flight is getting hammered because many expect more out of MS. I'm one of those weird ones who feels that MS is ten years behind when it comes to graphics, and I guess I (and others) expected more from MS. I know, flame away at me, I know I'm in the minority...just voicing my opinion. : )I love all sims, for different reasons. There's no reason not to enjoy them all!

FLIGHT, Aerofly FS, etc - thoughts
LOL that's the thing! I've been bummed that Flight is limited (now) to the islands, but I'm fine with the fact that AFS is limited to Switzerland...I know! I don't get it either. I suppose, it's because it's something completely new and different. And while I do indeed admit that Flight has upgraded it's graphics since FS10, personally I guess I was expecting more of a jump like we're seeing in the gaming industry.I've been flying Flight since its release, and enjoy it, but was looking for a bigger jump I guess. Just an opinion! I will certainly buy Alaska, and hope for more along the way! : )My other point was - Aerofly FS was a huge release for what seems to be a small company. You'd think with MS' resources, we'd have seen more of a leap. Just my opinion.

FLIGHT, Aerofly FS, etc - thoughts
Hi all,I've been going back and forth with FLIGHT, wondering why I'm just not buying into it, after so many hours. Heck, I love sims, all flight sims, so why am I not fully engaged with this thing? As I've stated, I guess I was just hoping for that next "big" sim, the next advance from MS, with a full world (I personally enjoy having the opportunity to fly in different areas of the world)...with upgraded graphics, new dynamics, aircraft, etc. I was bummed to hear that the next step was not going to come in the form we've always expected. I am going to be excited to see how this one unfolds, and may buy into it once I see what MS' plans are.I have been waiting for Aerofly FS (google it...Ikarus? Youtube as well) for my Mac, and found it on the app store for around $50 USD. It only covers Switzerland, and is primarily a GA sim...but holy cow have I been loving this thing. THIS is what I was hoping for from MS...a breathtaking, fun, NEW step with advanced graphics. I'm limited to Swiss airspace, but adventuring has never been so fun. Check it out. This is what I feel the future is for simming. MS should take note. I'd post screens, but I know this is not the forum for this sim. MS wanted to go after casual gamers with FLIGHT? This sim captures the raw feel of flying, and it's a pity it'll not get worldwide attention. And no, I'm in no way connected to this company. I just want to bring it to fellow simmers attention, as you may be interested in it! : )In the meantime, I'll be keeping an eye on new developments with FLIGHT! Have fun all!Bob

LOL too pricey for me.I should clarify "full sim realism" - basically the next entry into the MSFS world, what we have come to expect in a next entry i.e. full world, details airports, AI, ATC, etc etc etc. Who knows though...perhaps Flight will offer this down the road.B

Hi all,Thinking more about this, I guess it does indeed come down to personal preference. Being an avid simmer, I have indeed bought every sim which has hit the market, including some military flight sims as well. In each sim, Fly!, Pro Flight, ATP, Chuck Yeager, on and on, there has been something fun and different which kept my attention. And yeah, my $1K figure was a wee low. ; )My point, about Flight, (and my opinion) is that although a bit prettier, it didn't hold my attention for very long, even after hours and hours of giving it a chance. It reeks of console, and that is why I'd like to see a comment about what the future holds. If they move from this free product, with $ for DLC (which is fine) and offer up the world, plus FS functionality like we're used to, then I will be interested. Again, this is an opinion. After re-reading my original post, I am scratching my head to see why it was going to be locked. LOL, can anyone help me out here? Yeah, I got a bit testy after I read it was going to be locked, but my original post was harmless. Is this a growing trend? I see harmless posts voicing opinions being locked. As long as you keep it clean and mature, the folks who are unhappy with Flight should be able to voice their concerns just like the Flight supporters who give praise to the sim. Just sayin'.Again, I am really excited to hear what the future of Flight is going to be, but am going to simply be a lurker in the meantime.

I'll stop posting now - I seriously can't understand why people may feel hostility. I posted my thoughts without flaming. Geofa, I have followed you for years and always admired you.I simply said I want to know more about the future. Hostility? Thats someone who comes on here and says "Flight S*cks, etc etc". That was not me.Seriously don't know where you think I was being "hostile".BOK - LOL probably more than $1k.

LOL after most likely $1K+ spent on simming since the 80's, I'd say yeah. I need more than a $30 game. I want the next entry into the simming world. The closest I am getting right now is Xplane 10. Is that so wrong?Maybe I am alone in this thinking...to each their own. I simply said, I am waiting to hear what the future brings...BGeofa...honestly, where have I been hostile? I LIKE Flight, but want to know the plans for the future?B

Was this thread seriously going to be locked??? For the opinions of a lifelong simmer??? With a lot of $ invested in our hobby? Please explain.I said nothing bad about Flight.I want to see where this thing is going, nothing more. I love simming, from FS, to ATP, to Pro Flight, to XP10, etc.If this thread was going to be locked, you need to need to get a hobby/job. I'm just posting my opinion. Spirit - what was the issue???B

All,As a simmer from the Commodore 64 days, with most likely thousands of dollars spent (ouch!) on dimming, I hope to bring an OPINION on Flight. Everyone has opinions, so please remember this is my personal interpretation on this sim.I want to know the future, plain and simple. This is a nice game (sim)...I will not call it a sim until it delivers full sim realism. Sorry if I offend the Flight community, but I feel that I should be able to voice my opinion. If some are able to applaud its good points, than I feel that I can discuss its shortcomings.Show me the future of this sim. If I see a full world, with full world terrain, and possibilities for 3rd party developers, I may dive deeper. But, as a long time simmer (but only 40 years old) I feel like it's an end of an era. We look forward to, every 4 years or so, a new sim with new graphics, dynamics, etc. This is a tease, so far. GOOD, not stellar advancement, but good nonetheless. What's in store?Sorry if I Pee off any of the Flight faithful, but I'm not going to buy into this until I see more.I've retired my PC for a new iMac 27", and am getting used to Xplane !0, and am happy with the progress. Come on FS...show me why I should break out my old PC again!!!Again, NOT to be meant as a flame to Flight...Bob

Just took a flight out of KCGX Meigs Field
Awesome - I was thinking more about the lack of large downtown buildings, without any add ons. Everything else looks great! Thanks,Bob
