March 11, 201214 yr All,As a simmer from the Commodore 64 days, with most likely thousands of dollars spent (ouch!) on dimming, I hope to bring an OPINION on Flight. Everyone has opinions, so please remember this is my personal interpretation on this sim.I want to know the future, plain and simple. This is a nice game (sim)...I will not call it a sim until it delivers full sim realism. Sorry if I offend the Flight community, but I feel that I should be able to voice my opinion. If some are able to applaud its good points, than I feel that I can discuss its shortcomings.Show me the future of this sim. If I see a full world, with full world terrain, and possibilities for 3rd party developers, I may dive deeper. But, as a long time simmer (but only 40 years old) I feel like it's an end of an era. We look forward to, every 4 years or so, a new sim with new graphics, dynamics, etc. This is a tease, so far. GOOD, not stellar advancement, but good nonetheless. What's in store?Sorry if I Pee off any of the Flight faithful, but I'm not going to buy into this until I see more.I've retired my PC for a new iMac 27", and am getting used to Xplane !0, and am happy with the progress. Come on FS...show me why I should break out my old PC again!!!Again, NOT to be meant as a flame to Flight...Bob
March 11, 201214 yr There certainly is a lot missing from Flight, but what is there is mostly quite good. I'm also wondering where MS intends to go with it, but what we have so far is more than enough for me to take the ride.
March 11, 201214 yr Yes, I had a similiar debate going through my head. Wait to see what else is in store? or Go for it. I put a 1,000 miles into the game with no dlc, and then realized I want to support this. So I am all in... here's hoping!
March 11, 201214 yr There certainly is a lot missing from Flight, but what is there is mostly quite good. I'm also wondering where MS intends to go with it, but what we have so far is more than enough for me to take the ride.+1Exactly my view on it. I also am VERY curious what the future might bring, but I am also too happy with what MS Flight offers to not use it. But unlike Bob I don't mind if I don't get the full world and I also don't mind if there aren't any 3PD's involved... UNLESS of course MS can't deliver the goods... But I think MS can. At least the 'goods' I am hoping for. It's very probable those are different 'goods' then what Bob is hoping for. And so I can understand people not liking MS Flight and not getting into it. Very logical and no problem at all (obvisously!).
March 11, 201214 yr This is a nice game (sim)...I will not call it a sim until it delivers full sim realismThanks for expressing how you feel about Flight - can definitely understand what your view is on it. While I have a different view, there's no offense taken! I feel Flight is a great addition to my "computerized aviation collection" - I can still fly FS9 if I want ATC, I can still fly Rise Of Flight if I want WWI, I can still fly IL-2 if I want WWII. But - and this is a huge but - I find myself spending my time in Flight. I like low and slow aviation, I like what Microsoft has done so far, and I choose to show my like by voting with my wallet - I've purchased the Island pack and the Maule to show "this is what I want".Does this mean there will be more in the future? I certainly hope so, but for now I'm happy flying what is there. The reason I chose the particular quote I did from your post is that I feel (and, like you, my opinion) "full sim realism" is open to interpretation by the individual. I'm happy calling it a sim because, although it lacks many features, the level of flight immersion for me is very good. I'm looking forward to what the future may bring - but if it brings nothing additional I feel that I've more than got my money's worth.
March 12, 201214 yr This thread is now unlocked. Thank you Geof. You are a scholar and a gentleman! :hi:
March 12, 201214 yr Author Was this thread seriously going to be locked??? For the opinions of a lifelong simmer??? With a lot of $ invested in our hobby? Please explain.I said nothing bad about Flight.I want to see where this thing is going, nothing more. I love simming, from FS, to ATP, to Pro Flight, to XP10, etc.If this thread was going to be locked, you need to need to get a hobby/job. I'm just posting my opinion. Spirit - what was the issue???B
March 12, 201214 yr This is a nice game (sim)...I will not call it a sim until it delivers full sim realism.Oh i see... kind of like FS9 / FSX... your term "full sim realism" is quite nebulous imo... Are we talking about something like from Frasca? Maybe a full motion simulator?Absolute bottom line for "basic sim realism" is going to cost you much more than any $30 game can provide..
March 12, 201214 yr Bobber-maybe a little less hostility? Stephen has unlocked the thread....that should be obvious. Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
March 12, 201214 yr Author LOL after most likely $1K+ spent on simming since the 80's, I'd say yeah. I need more than a $30 game. I want the next entry into the simming world. The closest I am getting right now is Xplane 10. Is that so wrong?Maybe I am alone in this thinking...to each their own. I simply said, I am waiting to hear what the future brings...BGeofa...honestly, where have I been hostile? I LIKE Flight, but want to know the plans for the future?B
March 12, 201214 yr Only 1k spent on simming since the 80's? That wouldn't even cover my upgrade from an Amiga to my first pc which I recall was around 2k alone-followed by a 386, then a 486 then the first Pentium? Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
March 12, 201214 yr Author I'll stop posting now - I seriously can't understand why people may feel hostility. I posted my thoughts without flaming. Geofa, I have followed you for years and always admired you.I simply said I want to know more about the future. Hostility? Thats someone who comes on here and says "Flight S*cks, etc etc". That was not me.Seriously don't know where you think I was being "hostile".BOK - LOL probably more than $1k.
March 12, 201214 yr "If this thread was going to be locked, you need to need to get a hobby/job. I'm just posting my opinion. Spirit - what was the issue???"When a mod reflects on his decision, then relents and gets this comment I see it as hostile...and by the way I am not thrilled about Flight either. Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
March 12, 201214 yr Author OK, lock this thing for me stating I'd like to see a pledge for the future of Flight.Done and done. Have not flamed anyone, or made immature judgements.Sorry if taken out of context.Bob
March 12, 201214 yr Sorry-it has nothing to do with your initial comment-except for a nasty one on a mod who requested the thread be unlocked after reflection. Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
