FS9 Aircraft went transparent after flight

Recommended Posts

Hey, i just did a long flight in FS9 and after i landed and went to the gate, i noticed that the aircraft was transparent, which i later found out that it is due to FS9 for some reason made the aircrafts (all aircrafts are like this) alpha channels go from reflection to transparency, restart did not help.

is there a way to change it back to reflection instead of having to change the alpha channels on all aircrafts?

why does it change the alpha channels for no reason?

In SF9 the texture Alpha channels can control either reflection or transparency.

Which one it controls is dictated by the material settings the developer used when they created the model.

This is not something the end-user can change and it has nothing to do with what is in the Alpha channel.

Did you start out that flight being able to see the plane?

If this change happened during a sim session I would suspect you are having problems with your video card and/or drivers.

Have you added anything to the sim lately?

I had this problem several years ago and finally traced it to an addon that had replaced the default envmap.bmp with one that caused the problem.

Reverting back to the original fixed it for me.

Envmap.bmp is in your main FS9 Texture folder and the original is dated 16-April 2003 and is 43,762 bytes.

If you find that you do not have the original file you can restore it from your discs. There is instructions on how to do that here- http://www.cat-tamer.com/flightsim/faq001.html

Note that some environment enhancement packages replace this file so back up the one you find before you replace it, on the off chance this is not the problem.

regards,

Joe

getting the default envmap.bmp back seems to have fixed it, only thing is that the "faulty" envmap that i used, i have used for a year or so without any problems, so why did it change?

Thank you.
