Monitor "out of range"

Featured Replies

I finally got around to installing FS2004 and before I can fly anything it get a blank monitor with a message: "Out of Range"Any help appreciated.

Lower your resolution in the FS Display Config. What is happening is that FS is trying to use a monitor resolution that is too high for the refresh rate of your montior.

Jim,Perhaps you have a resolution setting specified in your FS9.cfg file that is not supported by your monitor. I'd suggest the following:1) Backup your FS9.cfg (see the FAQ in this forum if you're not sure where it's located)2) Open your working copy of FS9.cfg,3) Locate the Mode=xxxx entry under the DISPLAY.DEVICE.yyyy heading where xxxx identifies the resolution in which FS9 will try to open itself and yyyy identifies the video display device you're using to run FS9,4) Change that to something you're sure your monitor can handle (e.g., Mode=1024x768x16) and save the changes,5) Try to run FS9 again. If it doesn't help, keep the backup copy of FS9.cfg you created as a backup (e.g., FS9_ORIGINAL.cfg) and then delete the working copy you changed per my directions. There should now be no file named FS9.cfg in your directory. Now fire up FS9, and it should run swimmingly. You can make the changes from scratch or refer to your backup copy for items you may have changed (key assignments, performance tweaks, etc.).Hope this helps,KevinEDIT: Sorry, Fred. Was typing a while and stepped on your post.

Thanks, Folks, for your help.It took me all day to resolve this problem mainly because I couldn't find FS9.cfg.It turns out it was a hidden file in my WinXP documents file. This really further enamored me to the Bill Gates monopoly. Why in the heck couldn't they find a way to alert the "customer" to a potential problem like this?Anyway I appreciate your interest.Jim VT :-hmmm

P.S. Can I now delete FS2002?

>P.S. Can I now delete FS2002?Jim,I'm sure you have good reasons to delete FS2002, and I'm not meaning to cajole you into keeping it around. I'd just like to let you know (if you don't already) that FS2002 can coexist with FS2004 happily enough if that's your biggest reason. I have read posts from other simmers who have encountered an odd problem here or there when deleting FS2002 after FS2004 was installed, but I don't recall their content at the moment (sorry). Perhaps a search in these forums might get you your answer if this post doesn't, though I imagine any search with the keywords FS2002 and FS2004 will rack up a pretty large number of hits without some good qualifiers and the AND button selected. :-) I'd say you're safe to uninstall it, but please have your FS2004 CD's at the ready in case you need to restore some files or do a complete reinstall. If you run into registry issues, a reinstall of FS2004 should solve them, but so will running AFCAD v. 2.21 as it will offer to place a registry entry for FS2004 if the program is present but a registry entry is not.Hope this helps,Kevin>P.S. Can I now delete FS2002?Mr. Heyer, any thoughts??? ;-)
