Small screen with good resolution or larger screen with lower resolution?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have been reading through the forum to try to figure out what kind of screen I want to go for next. I currently have a 24 inch screen at 1920x1200, but would like something bigger. I'm an avid user of TrackIR, so I don't really think I need a multi-monitor setup for the simulator itself, but I need screen real estate for all the extra tools. Also, a bigger panel would perhaps make TrackIR easier to use since it allows more head movement without loosing the screen. My options are thus as follows:

1. Get a second 24 inch monitor at the same solution

2. get a 27 inch monitor at 1080

3. get a 27 inch monitor at 1440

I'm a bit worried about the drastic increase in resolution compared to what I have now in terms of FPS. My rig is a 2600K at 4.5GHz with a 560 Ti graphics card. I have everything working quite smoothly now with my current setup. However, moving to a larger solution would most probably allow me to reduce AA from 8SQ + 2x transparent super sampling. Another factor is the price, 1080 resolution is significantly cheaper. I'm also planning to buy a cheap used second GP to have a total of three or four monitors connected to the system, but as I said, probably just one will be running the outside view/VC/simulator itself.

What are your thoughts on this trade-off?
