I've been trying to test FG but when I load an aircraft and the viewpoint is in the virtual cockpit, the camera pans to the left from the beginning and I can't stop it. When I unplug my joystick (Thrustmaster HOTAS-X) it behaves again but I obviously want to use the joystick. Has anyone else had this issue, and what is the fix for it. Is it because I have to adjust the XML for the joystick config?

Probably, I remember to change my joystick.xml a long time ago. Have a look at the wiki and that section within flightgear forums. Also don't forget to give it back to fgfs afterwards.
