June 22, 200421 yr Airliners are a type of aircraft I enjoy flying in FS, especially the complex ones made by 3rd party. As I've looked around the cockpit in VC mode there's no need to mention there's a lot of room in there and the controls are everywhere especially on the overhead penal which seems to be out of reach if the aircraft were to be piloted by 1 people. As in FS I'm the only one who pilot the aircraft so I'm bother by this little fact that can one people reach all the controls in airliners cockpit (in real life of cause) ? Talking about 2 crews cockpit here since the one that need 3 or more crews is out of the question IMO.
June 22, 200421 yr ummm...What aircraft you talking about? The PMDG 737NG VC looks deceptively big whilst,in reality it's actually small!John http://homepage.eircom.net/~eamonnmca/images/logo_ba.JPGwww.bavirtual.co.uk Senior Captain Simflight.com Staff Reviewer
June 22, 200421 yr Though I say that the instruments and buttons look small in PMDG, but in reality they are BIIIG! But yes, cockpit is quite tiny in 737. Captain can reach all overhead controls if he really wants it. Maybe has to release the shoulder harness for topright buttons ;)
June 22, 200421 yr I've been in a few real world cockpits lately and have been shocked at how cramped and tiny all of them have been! Compared to the perceived roominess of FS cockpits, one wonders how a pilot taller than 5 feet can even get into one sometimes. I've found that while in VC mode, zooming in a lot more than I used to simulates some of this claustrophobia. Then again, zooming out gives a better impression of peripheral vision. Don't be fooled by how big our virtual front offices seem... in the real world, they're quite small.
June 23, 200421 yr A good example is the default 172- In FS I have plenty of room to move around- in real life my shoulders are practically touching the door and the other pilot. I can pretty much open the other door without undoing the harness. I'm faily big, but not enormous. The 152 is another story! If I could stretch my legs, they'd probably hit the prop!

Personally, I feel that FS feels just right in the cockpit. I can rub shoulders, feel cramped, and everything!!!! :)See pic:L.Adamson
