June 22, 200421 yr I am a novice and need assistance (obviously!). What is an AFCAD file? What does one do when instructions ask for "Textures required, Airport 2.6, VOD, Nova & Nova Gold"? What are these items? i,e, as mentioned in FS2004 Scenery library, under Melbourne Australia File ymm/2004.zip by Claude Schmidt and Sydney Ses Bases Filename sydcbase.zip by Clive Marriott. I want to download these and others, however I am not familiar with these terms/procedures. I can however download files that don't ask for extras as I have followed the excellent basics detailed in Tutorial Series for add on aircraft and add on scenery in recent Computerpilot magazine. Hope someone can help. Thanks, Dan.
June 22, 200421 yr An AFCAD file defines certain taxiway, runway, apron, and parking properties for airports, especially for AI aircraft control. AFCAD140.zip for FS2002 and AFCAD221.zip for FS2004 provide the interface to making AFCAD files.AFCAD221 for FS2004 provides even more capability by adding the actual runway, taxiway, apron, and parking visual scenery. I recommend downloading the AFCAD files and read about their capabilities. If the third party addon indicates you need the additional files, you need to find the files and install them. Visit www.flightsim.com, main menu page, Must Have Files, download and install the needed files. Once installed you don't need to install them again if you already installed them. The rationale for having the files installed is two fold. First, the files are placed in the flight simulator default texture folder and can be used by all scenery addons. Second, scenery designers, can reference the must have files, NOT include them in their packages, and NOT install the same files over and over again in their scenery folders. This reduces scenery bloat and serves to keep the flight simulator textures to a minimum.W. Sieffert Bill Sieffert
