GPS

Featured Replies

Hi, Can anybody tell me if it`s possible (and how)to change the arrival runway in a flight plan being followed by the GPS? I`m using Radar Contact. I got vectors to a runway at Charles de Gaul which was different to the one in my flight plan. It was very confusing because of the number of runways in that area. If I had known how to change the runway in the Garmin, it would have been able to see exactly where I was supposed to be going.Advice would be appreciated.Cheers,David

In FS9 you can try waiting until you know what runway you will be landing on before you load and activate the approach procedure. Don't program procedure waypoints into the plan, loading and activating the procedure can do that.Read The Freindly "Manual" (the learning center) to see how to use the procedure functions of the GPS.In versions earlier than FS9/2004 you could display the GPS and try to align yourself with the runway. It's pretty easy to line up on the ILS feathers leading to a runway equiped with a localizer. You could also access a web site that offers approach plates, print out the plates for your intended destination and alternate and keep them handy in your "cockpit". Real world pilots keep a binder full of plates in their flight bags. Then you could fly the approach using the navigation radios, which you might be useing for the ILS capabilities anyway. It get easy to understand why so many real world planes have two pilots to handle all that in the last few minutes before landing!
