Possible Howard 500/terrain texture conflict?

Featured Replies

Gentlemen,Sorry to hear of the issues. If you think this issue is related to landing lights, try commenting out the landing light effects in the Lights section of the aircraft.cfg. They should look like this when commented out://light.10= 5, -1.54, -18.95, 0.06, fx_landing.fx//light.11= 5, -1.54, 18.90, 0.02, fx_landing.fxThen, change light 12 to be light 10 OR comment it out it as well. The Howard is heavy on textures even though they were optimized to the smallest acceptable size to me. You can reduce them further as you like with some loss of quality.

Milton, Sorry to be such a pain in the rear with this! Thanks for the fast comeback and I will certainly give it a shot! Thank you, RickB "Someday I will fly in a real B-17"!!!

I will also go through all the textures to see if I can spot anything there. Will let you know when done.

Okay, this may or may not help. I found some DXT3 textures with no alpha channel. I found that these do not work in FS2002 though they seem to work fine in FS2004.I converted them to 8-bit and uploaded them for you to try. Download and unzip to a temporary folder. Then copy paste the folder contents into you Howard texture folder. There is no size difference to the compressed DXT3 textures but they will require less video memory.Let me know if this helps.http://www.flightsimonline.com/downloads/hwtxtup.zip

I am having the exact same problem. Once you get so far above the ground the textures disapprear or "Haze Over". Once you get close to the ground it clears up. I have only noticed this with the Howard. But other than that my hat is off to the designers it is a great aircraft. Oh yea I have a 2.6 ghz intel, 512 Ram, Nvidia FX 5600 video card.David Hall

Hi Milton, The new textures worked LIKE A CHARM!!! I cannot thank you enough and I,m sure the other guys with the similar issue must feel the same! I extensively "tested" in several flights and not once had a problem! I have to tell you I really hated even bringing up this issue for fear of making your aircraft appear "bugey"!(Which it is NOT) I will not forget this added effort on your part and if you gentlemen ever release a payware aircraft(this aircraft is that quality already!) I will be the first in line to purchase!!! Again,THANK YOU RickB P.S. Sorry I took so long to get back to you, the ol, sleep dog was tugging at my eyelids!LOL "Someday I will fly in a real B-17"!!!

I wasn't really having too much trouble with the textures but I have a less than stellar system so I decided to give them a try too (the new texutres that is). I saw a 5-10 fps improvement!?? Is that at all within the realm of possibility? Flying in the VC previously I was seeing maybe 20-25fps. After putting the new textures in and flying under basically the same conditions I was seeing more like 28-40fps...now that was only one flight, but I'd flown guite a few from the same location before and never seen framerates like that.

Milton,I have had similar "problems" when flying the 500 at night...green haze over the ground follows the aircraft (looks like a good old "pea souper" fog). Have downloaded the new textures and will try later when I get home. Will let you know.Ta much!EDIT: Oops...should have said...P3 2.4GHz, 768Meg, 128Meg Ti4200 with "Go faster stripes" (factory clocked).

"Seeing" the "smile" on your face to enjoy the Howard 500 is payment enough. :-) Thank you.

I too saw better fps with these. If it all pans out okay, I will release these textures as an formal upgrade.Thank you for the effort to stick with the issue until resolved. :-)

Hi MiltonWay to go .... :DWOW! .... what a difference these new textures have made. Not only did they resolve the texture blurring issue, ... but, everything is just so much snappier now. Even switching views internally is almost instantaneous. I am so chuffed. :-jumpyThe Howard is an absolute pleasure to fly ... :-cool Thank you so much, .. not only for a superb aircraft, but for your level of commitment in resolving these niggly little issues. You sir, ... are truly a gentleman.Cheers :-beerchug Tom
