June 28, 200421 yr I'd like to understand how to use the Flight Management Computer for flying my "heavies" but cannot get to grips with the explanations I've found describing how to operate the FMC.Can anyone please suggest where or how I can find a simple explanation/tutorial/video on how to use it?Cliff (In sunny Spain)
June 28, 200421 yr If you own the PMDG 737, check out my tutorial in the library. It includes basic FMC operations.
June 29, 200421 yr Author The FMC isn't exactly a simple piece of equipment, so finding a simple tutorial may be difficult.I learned how to use the FMC/FMS's by following the tutorials available to the letter. That helped me fly a pre-scripted flight properly. Then I substituted in my own departure and destination airports, but followed the tutorial exactly. I admit that when it comes to computer systems (real and simulated), I am sometimes a quick study, so it only took 3 or 4 flights before I was comfortable - but there are others who need longer. My dirty little secret is that I don't know how to use holds or some of hte other "advanced" features yet, but I'll get there. Practice practice practice, and eventually you'll get it!-Greg(Look for PMDG 737NG tutorials, and perhaps any tutorials and manuals from the older Dreamfleet 737 and the PIC-767 aircraft - many of the concepts are the same)
June 29, 200421 yr Yep...it all depends on the aircraft you are flying. There is no FMC in FS9 until you purchase an add-on aircraft that features one. Which d'you own? PMDG 737? PSS Airbus?, Eurowings Commuter?Though fundamentally similar, there are enough differences between them and the way in which the aircraft uses them to make a transition from one type (say PMDG) to anothe (PSS Airbus) rather confusing!! Trust me..I keep wondering why certain functions fail to work until I remember which way the different systems operate ;)A major reason I would surmise as to why it'll take a pilot months to transition from one type to another, unless he goes from an A320 to an A330.....!
