I've recently purchased the Opus Fsx software. I have a few concerns. I have a well built pc with Intel I7 oc 4.4 16 ram gtx 670. How come when running the software my frames per second drop to an all time low 10 frames per second. Is there an answer for this? Additional information is I'm running Rex Essentials for the textures. Could TrackIr5 have any impact in the fps using the Opus weather engine? This seems to best a wonderful program and I'm just trying to utilize it to its best potential. Thanks for the help.

There shouldn't be any impact on your frame rates so yes there is something wrong.

Make sure you have read and followed the instructions in the Getting Started guide for Single PCs.

First, you have a standalone system so you must only run the FSXSERVER program, do not run the client program that will freeze your sim (it is only intended to be run on networked client machines).

Secondly, disable TrackIR for now (and stop TrackIR) and get the server program up and running with just the normal Live Weather Engine and Live Camera interface.

Third, make sure you are not running any other conflicting package, that is any other weather engine or EZCA combined with Live Camera.

Once you have the basic FSXSERVER program running OK and getting your weather updating. Read the Flight1 'TrackIR Interface' forum topic or consult your GS guide to prepare and set the system up for use with your TrackIR. Follow the instructions carefully, thay are all needed and are a requirement of the Natural Point SDK and TrackIR device.

Any further problems then just email me and I will be glad to help you get your system up and running.

Stephen,

Thanks for the quick response. I have disabled the TrackIR software like you suggested. I'm plesently pleased with the dam and ahm in the camera controls. I'm satisfied with that for right now. A few questions after initial flight test. I was flying out of KATL this morning and was climbing through a nice deck of clouds. How come when climbing through the clouds I could still refernce the ground? It seems that the clouds are not as thick as they should have been. Also as I was climbing through an upper layer of clouds all of the sudden the ceiling dissaperead and they became scattered and few? Just a few concerns of mine. Other than that thouroughly enjoying the program.

Hi Justin

Please read our two topics 'Using the Live Weather Engine' and 'Next LWE Upgrade', these should explain a lot of things and some of the limitations of FSX/P3D, also what we have planned during the next phase of LWE development, starting Tuesday.

So I assume I need to wait till the next update? This is when there will be a solution to the weather engine just updating the surrounding weather out of the middle of nowhere? Just trying to make sure I have a solid understanding of the situation.

Hi Justin

You certainly don't need to wait, the LWE is doing a very good job now reflecting the real world weather, but METARs do change and we have to adhere to what they say. After all, it is the METAR reports that are describing the actual real world condition. The current LWE with its very intelligent weather interpolation is giving you what no other engine can at present. Real and varied weather from horizon to horizon.

The LWE does not just update the weather out of the middle of nowhere, the weather is completely derived from the actual METAR reports. If you do not like to see changes of any kind, might I suggest disabling further updates after the first load. The LWE is creating detailed and accurate weather for over 300 miles in each direction. Most people are content with regular METAR updates, yes there will be changes, but only changes that have been reported by the met stations.

I think it is all described in our Flight1 topics described above. You can be assured the weather you are flying in is correct according to the current meteorological sources, any changes you see are a direct result of actual real world changes.

Up to now everyone is reporting accurate agreement with the real world conditions so when you ask for an ATIS report, you can be confident that the information is correct and accurate. I suggest you set the update rates to suit you own preferences for now. Keeping in mind the restrictions imposed by FSX.

Thanks for the information Stephen. I purchased the product a few days ago. What do I need to do to make sure I have the latest version avialable? Is it best to just wait for a few updates to go by before updating the program if I am content with my current state of the program?

Hi Justin

You can monitor the Announcements topic on our Flight1 forum for details of new upgrades. You can upgrade at any time but may need to re-enter your configuration settings if you revert back to a previous version. Keep a backup of your CAM (camera settings) and DAT (configuration settings) files when upgrading to be on the safe side.

Cheryl
