July 3, 200421 yr Hi,in a desert there is some wind. But why doesnt the sand fly with it and makes it more difficult to fly there, takeoff and land in Africa where wind blows and the sand should be all around? FS9 doesnt simulates that, or am I wrong??? Regards, Torben Hadler
July 3, 200421 yr I dread to think of the performance implications on modelling dynamic sand clouds :-lol, but we can dream :-lol !!!!Dan.
July 3, 200421 yr Commercial Member Howdy, actually, it's a neat idea and maybe not that hard on resources. One could try to alter the water spray effects, like the ones I used for the Victoria Falls. The color can be changed, the footprint too (though it will remain in the same place), the influence of gravity and wind on the effect, etc. Flying close to or into the "sand cloud" would lead to limited or zero visibility. In short, the effect would be spatially limited to a few km but should be possible to make. All the basic information is documented in the FS2004 Special Effects SDK.Cheers, Holger.
July 3, 200421 yr Author That sounds promissing....Think about the water spray effect of a helicopter over water or ground.... The probs of an GA or the jet engines of a airliner that can land and takeoff from sand-runways, would make sand-clouds in front and around of the aircraft... If a AI plane landed some seconds or to two minutes befor you, the effect should still be active from this AI. The more AI are taxiing the ground the more sand effect should be there and remaining...So, such effects are not tooo difficult to create based of the effects we all know today. But what about a sandstorm in a desert? What about little sand movemends in light wind drifts in any desert like in USA, Asia or Africa? That should be some special effect created from AS2004/Meteo with a new module what gets triggered in desert areas by certain weather conditions. Regards, Torben Hadler
