Improving 737-800 flight dynamics

Featured Replies

The new Kittyhawk range of 737-800s is totally dazzling with amazing textures and clear imaging. But their flight performance is mixed. It's tough to slow them down on approach and the pitch angles are sub-optimal during that phase of flight.I was wondering, is there some way to combine the superb flight dynamics of the FFX NG range with the great visual model of the Kittyhawks?Appreciate any advice, thanks!JS

I don't use the kittyhawk or FFX planes, but I would imagine that it is as simple as copying over the .air file from the ffx ng over the kittyhawk folder, and changing every {aircraft.x} sim= line to reflect the ffx .air file's name, less the .air. For instance, if the air file was named ffx_dynamics.air, your aircraft sections would look like:{aircraft.x}sim=ffx_dynamicsBTW, the { and } should be square brackets but the forum system doesn't allow for the display of them.

Easiest way in this case would be to move the .mdl file from model folder and texture folder to folder of the plane which flight model you want to use. However it does still need some tweaks you have to do.You need to copy at least the following items from aircraft.cfg of the original aircraft which for the 3D model belongs to:pilot view point - to have the cockpit view in correct position according to the 3D modelcontact points - to make sure the gears are in correct positions and plane is at correct height on the ground.nav lights etc. - lights aren't in the correct positions either (landing lights are though, those are built into the 3D model :))I don't remember anything else now..How you work out the texture folder and model is up to you.. you can either rename the .mdl file and texture folder to ones which you want to replace, or copy those aside the old files and alter aircraft.cfg for those. (and you could even make the old & new one available as a different models of the plane.. just like using different liveries, but in this case also different model)

If you can be patient just a little while, Erick is upgrading (patching) the models, and a brand new set of flight dynamics are being released. The ones that were included (FDE files) with the last release were unfortunatly old ones for FS2002. Long story as to why, but rest assured, the new dynamics are practically right on the money performance and handling wise, and there will no longer be anymore crashes with the weight section either. That's now editable and user friendly.
