July 6, 200421 yr It actually appears like the Northern Lights, with spikes upwards, moving, shimmering in air space above the water.I remember someone asking about this when FS9 CoF came out. But at that time, I wasn't planning on buying FS9. So I didn't pay any attention to the discussion.I was gonna just ignore it. But it's bothering me too much!Anybody know how to fix this? Thanks!!Rick
July 6, 200421 yr Author There's actually several different replacement water animations. If you search the library and the forums, you'll find several detailed how-tos. Most people, it seems, end up using Bill Lyon's textures plus a few other that I can't remember off the top of my head.
July 6, 200421 yr Yeah, but I've seen videos made by people who say they're using one or more of the third party enhanced water textures, and I've seen the spikes there, too. In fact, that's been a primary reason I haven't tried out any of the third party water textures myself.Am I mistaken, or is this "feature" unavoidable?
July 6, 200421 yr Author This feature is definately avoidable. I don't know the exact term for it, but the user downloads a "reflection map" that is displayed as a "wave." Personally, my animation is a subtle waving motion that doesn't have those spikes at all. Alternatively, you can turn off the detailed water and save 5-10 fps (in my experience). I usually have my water reflections turned off.
July 6, 200421 yr Ian, what word would you use if you were searching for the "how-to" regarding the the spike aparitions above the water and how to eliminate the effect?Rick
July 6, 200421 yr Author Rick,Ask and you shall recieve :)http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchI would have shared that earlier, but I was at work and it's hard to do a lot of browsing :DThat's the "version" of water I personally use.
