I have had some issues on my pc for the past couple of months. Program crashes for no reason, problems connecting and using the internet. when I installed FS 2002 pro I got to the 3rd disk and got a message saying couldn't read disk. and I noticed I had a fan slowing down when I booted my pc then speeding up to normal speed.had had these problems for a couple of months. I found out it was the power supply in my pc is going. this was causing all the issues and errors that i have been getting lately. the final proof happened when I booted my pc yesterday and today I had no video sound and windows didn't boot. after letting it run about 3 munits I shut it off and booted again. video and everything worked.I have a Gateway 1200 select with 20 gig hard drive 512 megs ramwith a Nvidia G force 3. 3/12 years old. I bought an extended warrentythat is good till june of next year. Gatway is sending a new power supply this week covered under warenty.signs of possable power supply failure are.boot problemscd rom drive slowing down and not working properlymodem problemserrors when using programs. If your keeping your pc up to par. cleaning out junk, defraging reguarly, keeping dust out. and these thing start happening. might want to check your power supply to see if it is up to par.Hope this might help someone else wh is having problems. It was also causing fs 2002 to crash for no reason. low power can cause many problems.Mutt

Good suggestions--I suggest cross posting in the HW forum too if you haven't done so already. You forgot one obvious sign of power supply failure. If you boot up, and you hear a sound coming from your box somewhat between a muted lawnmower and weedeater, chances are the fan on your power supply could be going :)
