July 7, 200421 yr This is my question:I am flying from airport X to Y, when Reaching Y I get ATC clearance to descend and receive a aproach clearance... I am also given the option to select a different approach, including vectors and the like...I tried asking for an different ILS with vectors, and ATC vectored me to what I suppose is the IAF, is that right? If I request the other option, Will ATC allow me to fly a Full blown Arrival (STAR) and Approach (ILS, GPS, NDB, etc) ? with altitude restrictions and Step descents?or Will I be bother with the usual "Go back to where I want" stuff and IFR Cancelled if I do not comply? Thanks for the respose.
July 7, 200421 yr Author ok, I'll bite....assuming FS9 and flights in the U.S.>I tried asking for an different ILS with vectors, and ATC>vectored me to what I suppose is the IAF, is that right?no, this is not right. MS is not IAF aware. You can ask for an ILS and you may get it, but you will be landing on the active runway. If it requires a circle to land, so be it. Just like in the real world.>>If I request the other option, Will ATC allow me to fly a Full>blown Arrival (STAR) and Approach (ILS, GPS, NDB, etc) ? with>altitude restrictions and Step descents?Nope. FS9 ATC is not STAR aware. However, you can preplan a star and fly it. I do it all the time in FS9 with ATC. You have to understand that a lot of STAR's are literally hundreds of miles long. With the exception of vertical requirements, FS9 is not to bad on this. You will be pulled off the STAR at a sometimes 'large distance'. Keep in mind that again in real life one is often pulled off a STAR, in fact on approaches that I fly into at KSEA, you have too in order to capture the ILS.>>Will I be bother with the usual "Go back to where I want">stuff and IFR Cancelled if I do not comply?get RadarContact, this will make you happy.
