another place to fly: Japan

Featured Replies

I don't know how much interest there will be in this. If you're looking, though, for a new place to fly, may I recommend Japan? I've been flying there (not exclusively, but regularly) for two months, and the landscape is quite dramatic.Looking at the entry for Japan in the CIA World Fact Book, I am beginning to see why. In area, the country of Japan is roughly comparable to the state of California, but only 12 percent of the land is flat enough to grow crops on. Translation: the mountains are not Himalayan in scale, but they are dense. This is a rugged country. I'll add that Japan, like California, has mountains and ocean in close proximity.I've compiled some screenshots here: http://virgil.org/dswo/fs/japantour. Notes on where to get mesh, charts, etc are here: http://virgil.org/dswo/fs/japantour/resources.htm

fantastic ...excellent shotshave to do a tour myself after seeing your pictures best wishes steve

If you want some excellent Japanese airports, check out this site. Most of it is in Japanese but enough is in English that you can get to the map of the airports to download. http://flightinfo.ens.ne.jp/sfs/billg

Fascinating!!!What a splendid website you have there....very nicely laid out and catalogued. That tour of Japan looks like an excellent idea, made all the tempting by the way that your presentation of this virtual flight is infact more akin to an accurate log of a good vacation!!Thanks very much for sharing this with us... :)

lol, it's not mine, it's one of those hidden FS9 gems. :-)billg

I think he's referring to the poster's website, Billg! It's beautifully done.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg

hehe, thought I got credit for 30 seconds. All kidding aside, these are really nice airports. Anyone that hasn't checked them out should. Nice scenery around too, and short hops to lot's of Asian destinations. Do it!!!DSWO has the right idea....billg

I've bookmarked your page quite a while ago...useful stuff for me when I reach Japan...;)

It's not my page!!! I'm just recommending it. These guys do a lot of work, and do it well, very well. They just don't get recognized like they should. These are nice airports. Check out one and then you'll be hooked on Japan, hehe. billg

Here's something else I didn't know about: VATSIM Japan has Instrument Approach Procedure charts for several of the large airports. Go to http://www.vatjpn.org/index_e.htm and look for "Charts."
