Landing lights & co. >>>>10.000fts

Featured Replies

Hi friends,i've ben taking off from many high altitude airport during last days. Now i ask: when 10.000 fts become 10.000 fts? I mean the various switchs management such as landing lights, safety belts and so on.If i take off from an apt with a 6.000 fts elevation, should i turn off all of the above after 4.000 fts climb? Thanks in advanceLuigi ;-)

Hi Luigi,I live in Denver, Colorado at 5280 feet. Planes taking off from Denver International Airport which is 5431 alititude do in fact turn off their landing light at 10000 feet. I watch them every night from my house as they come west towards the mountains. Seat belts are another thing, it depends on the amount of turbulence, they can come on at 18000 feet if there are storms in the area, as there was today in Denver. Now a to add to your thought, here in Denver at 10000 feet AGL (15000 ASL), we slow to 250knots, at 10000 feet ASL, planes slow to 210knots for the approach, go figure that one.BobKDEN

Thank you Bob, much appreciated.cheersLuigi ;-)

In such altitudes there are probably some airline based rules that apply. But, its not normal that you turn the landing light off instantly after takeoff, is it? So just grab some altitude and I think that 13000 ft would be a good choice. But Seat Belt signs cant be considered this way. They are not made because of altitude, but because of the possible injuries passengers may get when they are not using seatbelts and moving around when plane is in dangerous position. So you should better turn them off when 10000 feet above that airfield.
