November 19, 201213 yr hi there, i am new to dxt.bmp and opened a aer lingus a320 texture with this program.i want to leave the texture the same and change the regisration.however when i tried to edit EI-CVA on the wing i couldnt, because whatever way i tried to flip the wing to try to mke the text horizontal it would not let me position the text tool to edit the text.how can i go about doing this?should i try fs repaint? another question is can u open an ai and payware aircraft texture in dxt.bmp to edit texture or text? regards, Peter Dungan.
December 8, 201213 yr Say your lettering is on the upper right wing, and there is no lettering on the upper left wing. An easy way that I do this is to open the file in DXTBmp, click 'image', click 'send to editor', which on my computer sends the image to MS Paint, my computers default editor. You then go to the upper left wing that does not have the lettering on it, (usually it's a mirror image of the upper right wing) click 'select', click 'rectangle select' and outline the area of the unlettered wing which corresponds to the lettered area of the upper right wing, trying to also capture a few nearby landmarks (like vertical and horizontal rivet lines near the location of the lettering for example) Click 'rotate', click 'flip horizontal' (usually... very rarely you may have to click 'flip vertical', depending on where the wings are located on the texture ... side by side next to each other, or above and below each other), and drag and drop the unlettered section you rectangled in order to superimpose it right on top of the lettered section you want to cover, using the horizontal and vertical rivet lines (or any other landmark that appears on both wings) that you captured as your guides as to exactly where to place it. In tight spaces where 'rectangle select' may not work because it is also grabbing too many other texture pieces unrelated to the wing from other parts of the texture file, use 'freeform select' with the 'transparent selection' box also checked. With freeform select you can draw a freeform outline of exactly what you need to isolate from only the section of the wing you want, flip it, then drag it on top of the lettering like you did with 'rectangle select'. After the lettering is covered and the upper right wing now looks exactly like the upper left wing, you simply add the new lettering of your choice. No layers, no fuss, no muss, no cus! (on my computer, MS Paint does not anti-alias the edges of paint lines, resulting in jagged paint edges, so I letter and color using freeware Paint.net, which does anti-alias edges), But for most of the rest of a repainting task, MS Paint is more than adequate to do all the tasks that need be done where moving things around and "preparing the canvas for paint" is concerned.
December 9, 201213 yr Forgotten step... After capturing the section you want to move by selecting the rectangle around it, right click anywhere inside that rectangle, then left click "copy", right click again, then left click "paste". The copy of the area you selected now appears in the upper left corner... then select "rotate", then select "flip horizontal" (or vertical in those aforementioned rare occasions), then drag and drop the copy over the area you want to cover... same procedure if you use "freeform select". P.S. Freeform select is very particular about the right click to paste step... you have to right click carefully within the area you outlined in order for the paste to work and the copy to appear.
