Well, this fall will be my 7th semester and Ive dropped approximately $40,000 on school and flying. All of it student loans (I can hear the groans on that one). I will most likely be going part time from now on to stretch out school and delay paying back loans as long as possible while I find full time employment to start paying back some of these loans. The picture is still not all that great in the CFI world at most places, while banks think you are going to be making a lot of money right out of school and have no problem loaning you money whenever you ask for it.I plan on finishing up my CFI by the time winter hits so I can at least have that out of the way and just concentrate on whats left of Gen Ed classes. One day a few years from now I will finish up school and switch back over to flying, but right now the flight hours are just not there where I live and my family needs income more than anything else right now.My advice, if you need any, is to not borrow yourself into a big crater right from the start. Even if it takes you a few extra years to finish up your CFI and get some work, it will be less of a burden on you than what I am facing right now. I really did kind of figure that the aviation business would have picked up by now, but it hasnt come back quite as much as I had expected.I also wouldnt necessarily recommend majoring in Aviation Science such as myself. While a degree is still a degree, if you have any other interests, major in that. Airlines wont care if you dont have a degree in aviation (as long as you do have a degree), but other places/jobs probably will care what your degree is in.If you or anyone else needs any help or guidance, feel free to PM me (email may not work because I have a new email and am not sure whether it was updated by my request by the Avsim staff).Craig
