FSX, SSD, Regular crashes? Fixed?

Featured Replies

Hi folks. This is just a little heads up on a problem that I kept having - and I know I'm not alone - with FSX crashing on a semi regular basis. It would perhaps crash once every two days or something. Then here before christmas I had a more serious issue with my pc: Over night it started crashing regularly, and very often. After a few days of coming up empty, I noticed that it was crashing almost every hour - on the clock. I was at my witts end when I finally came across an article relating to my model SSD disk. It described my problem to a tee, saying that when the disk has run 8000 hours, and you havent updated the firmware for your disk, it will stop working after 1 hour. Since it carries both my OS and FSX, you can see how that was a problem :)

So I went ahead and updated the firmware from the manufacturers homepage, and it was very simple! I always thought firm ware updates were teh devil. After that I havnt had a single crash for a week now, and the PC seems rock solid. I'm starting to contemplate wether I should try to up my overclock just a tad since everything seems silky smooth.

And the best thing is that FSX hasnt crashed once! It could be a coincidense of course, but I dont think so. So if you have a SSD disk for either or both your OS and FSX, concider my story and check if there is a firmware update for it. You might just get yourself an extra christmas present :)

Merry Christmas!
