December 24, 201213 yr I just came acrross Process Lasso, its sort of like a 3rd party schedular, to help overcome the scheduling short comings of windows. For example its the very first tool i have seen that does what i do in my software. When a process like FSX hugging up all resources, it reduces FSx priority, not increase it. Since i saw it do that, then i started having a play with its other 1 million make it or break it if you can options. Used to use PriAffinity for years, second day with Process Lasso, i removed PriAffinity. Its a swiss army knife for those trying to get the most out of thier PC Resources. Its got a very usefull graph called System Responsiveness, so far i have noticed this graph is always swinging up/down widly when FSX is stuterring. Flight1 Garmin1000 is only avionics i could find to work with P3D, but a very pricy choice. Great tool i thought till i realised that this tool uses about 10% of CPU. For comparison FSX roughly 40% AS2012 barely1% and not constant at that. Could definatly feel the stuttering from the g1000, till i i used fairly advanced watchdog option in Process Lasso to starve the g1000 of cpu each time it crosses a cpu% threshold [6%]. From then on smooth. Prior to that i was starting to think of moving g1000 to ipad or something. I have seen lots of CPU/system tweak tools, this is got to be the best ever, seriously. This is why i think its one to bring out at cruise, something to tweak gently. Cause its got about lots an lots of options if you wana break something. example on my i7990 HT on 12 cores, i could see which cores were virtually idle, and which were busy, so moved the processes around to balance the load. Made things smoother. Tip, dont use the Throttle process option, it really does mean throttle, fsx fps ramping up and down. Its a very powerfull tool, used with caution to give full control over system load distribution. It overcomes some of the sillyness in windows schedular. My setup 1. I have setup watchdog to starve all those apps that compete with fsx for cpu, but starved of cpu only when they cross a cpu% threshold. Apps on watchdog a. PFE b.AS2012 c.G1000 d PlanG e FSC f etc 2. I have ProBalance enabled , this ensures system responsives is kept as close to 100% as possible, by doing task scheduling job where win7 schedular left off. So far i am quited impressed with the AI on this thing. 3. It has CPU core parking options, but this either does not work, or min core parking does not mean zero core parking. In short still see cores getting parked, but the tool has set corecct registry options. 4. MOst importantly i think all the settings are non volatile, so remebered on reboot. 5. No more need for affinity mask in FSX, i now set it here. for me 12 core i7990 core 0/1 = system core 2/3 = addons Core 4 to 11 = FSX FSX uses core 0 as well, part of reason why 2/3 was kep for addons. The point is i used to do all this via PriAffinity/Fsx.cfg etc. NOw its all done in this one tool, affinity mask line deleted from my p3d. I eventually went for professional version, seeing some good results with this tool. Some of the options i have in my setup have time limit for free version, so went for presional version eventaully. I think options like wtachdog on a processs is only unlimited in pro version. If nothing else, a nice tool to play with during cruise. Some parts of the menu in this tool have, DONT TRY THIS AT HOME written all over, so only carefull tweaking, its quite a powerfull tool. I still use Gamebooster though, to shut down all uneeded services etc. The free version is certainly worth playing with see what you think.
