Hey gang,Could someone out there explain the concept behind the old interline services (and sorry if I date you, but it was before my 24-year-old time)? I'm guessing it was the predecessor to code-sharing. How exactly did the interline work?Thanks!

Hi,Interlining really is not a "marketing" thing as it is a passenger-operational process. There really was no marketing of crouse airlines. You have to recall this was during regulation when competition was "limited" and routes awarded etc.In the US the major airlines had an agreement regarding how they will handle ticketing between airlines, baggage handling etc., on a limited basis.Some airlines such as Southwest were not a party to the interline process so an airline could not write a flight coupon for SWA, or transfer bags. This ment the passenger would have to claim his bag from AAL, go check it in at SWA and use a ticket written on SWA.But is you showed up on UAL and continued on NWA then the bag was tagged all the way thru to the final destination Makes lost bag tracking fun.I've just skimmed the principal topics on this....Tim757
