Default Key Assignment for Shift+E

Featured Replies

Can someone please tell me the command that is the Default Key Assignment for Shift+E ?I have made a large number of changes to my Default Key Assignments in FS2004 to make it easier to fly. However, when such changes are made, the original Key Assignment for a specific command is lost.If I simply reset everything to the original Default Key Assignments then all my changes will be lost and I don't want to lose those assignment changes I have made.A new aircraft I have just downloaded simply states that I need to use Shift+E for a specific action. Since I have reassigned that Shift+E key combination to another function, it will not work.Bottom line, I need someone to tell me the command that is the Default Key Assignment for Shift+E--someone who has not reassigned Shift+E to some other function. It can be found by choosing Options/Controls/Assignments. From there scroll down your list and look under the Keyboard column. When you find Shift+E, look in the left column under Event and tell me what it states there.Your help sincerely appreciated!!!Happy flying,Bill Molony

>Can someone please tell me the command that is the Default>Key Assignment for Shift+E ?>>Bill MolonyHi BillThe default function for Shift-E is 'open the main door'.Best wishesMike

Hi Mike,Thanks so VERY much for that cue.As it turned out, it wasn't actually 'open the main door' but rather 'select exit'. But your reply helped me find the correct one and I probably would not have figured it out without your help.Happy flying,Bill Molony

11th commandment= RTFM12th commandment= Thou shalt make back-up files before changes.Joe w.

Hi Joe,I assume by your rather cryptic response that you are suggesting I make a backup copy of the Key Assignments before resetting to the default Key Assignments. That would indeed be a great solution provided that is actually possible. I would LOVE to be able to do exactly that!I do know that according to the help file, when you make changes to Key Assignments, the file ...FS2004Aircraftkneeboard_keys.htm is supposed to be updated with those changes so that they can be viewed from the Kneeboard while flying. But a quick review of that file clearly shows that it is not changed at all and what's more does not even include an entry for opening the main exit. Therefore, unfortunately, I have not found a way to save the Key Assignments. Do you know of a way? Do you know where the Key Assignments are actually stored?Happy flying,Bill Molony

Back up FS9.CFG to back up control assignments, including those on the keyboard. Look in the Documents and SettingsUser IDApplication DataMicrosoftFS9 folder on the partition where your systems files are stored (substitute your Windows XP login ID for "USER ID"). To do that you may have to set the Windows Explorer option to show hidden files.Keyboard assignments are in the KEYBOARD_MAIN section. The assigned keys are stored as numerical codes. It helps if you have an ASCII code chart. As an example; my FS9.CFG file lists "TOGGLE_AIRCRAFT_EXIT=69,9". On the ASCII table capital E is 69 (decimal). For printable characters (usually above 32 decimal) you can translate the code by holding down an ALT key and typeing the three digit number (use leading zero if under 100) while your cursor is in a text editor like notepad.

Hi Robert,Thanks for the tip!!!I will definitely do that in the future.Happy flying,Bill Molony
