Full Screen Mode vs. Windowed

Featured Replies

Hello,I prefer flying in full screen mode where I get around 60fps, low detail. However if I fly in windowed mode I can easily get an extra 15 fps.Can anyone tell me why this is; and if I can get the same fps from full screen as windowed. Thanks

(Bump)BTW - I have an ATI card; do others get similar results? I have no idea why my frames would go down so much when I goto full screen mode.

When in Windowed mode you're running in 2D. In full screen mode the system is working in 3D (if you have the VPU drivers configured correctly... and it sounds like you do).Greg

May sound like a silly question, but isn't 3D only relevant if you're using the VC? billg

>May sound like a silly question, but isn't 3D only relevant>if you're using the VC? >>billg no, 3d acceleration is used to do loads of things not done in windowed mode. the lighting effects that make the objects appear to have depth, mip mapping, texture smoothing, etc are all covered by 3D. the affects are not so obvious these days with higher resolutions but in the Old days when software mode could/would only run at best 640x480 the hadware realy makes a difference. Also AA and Af is not possible in software.
