Is there a possibility of GPU power saving in X-Plane?

Hi,

 

let's say the sim is between 10 and 60 FPS depending if there are clouds, or if I use the 2D mode etc... X-Plane does always keep my GPU fans blowing in my settings. It's a PC with a GTX-570. The ridiculous part of it, it even uses full GPU power if sim is paused. Also it uses 30% CPU if paused. #####.

 

How can I quickly save power? I mean, sometimes I pause the sim or do something else while AP engaged (don't hit me ), then I don't need eye candy... Also I think the GTX570 will consume a lot energy...

 

Ideas? I could e..g. suspend the x-plane.exe process, but I'm afraid it does not survive properly.

There is a plugin called "x-freeze" or something like that. It allows to "freeze" x-plane and thus saves CPU and GPU power. You'll find it in the x-plane.org download section.

OK thanks. I guess it just suspends the x-plane.exe process. I think that's what I'll be doing.

Yes, but it allows you to resume in a sec and is very faithful in doing so.

I myself have my NVIDIA driver set to "adaptive v-sync / half refresh rate" (e.g. 30 FPS). 30 FPS with vsync enabled gives me smooth visuals and saves some GPU power too, especially while dialing my settings, looking at the map or flying high alt.
