5.1 Surround ?

Featured Replies

In both FS9 and FSX sounds are terrific, but I have no sound to my rear two speakers with 5.1 surround. With all other applications, all five speakers are producing sound with no problem (ilel CD's, Tapes, Streaming, Testing etc.).

In addition to this, with the latest drivers for my MB, I am able to test, adjust or equalize all speakers with no problem.

In past years with previous operating systems and FS versions, I remember also having this issue at times, but assuming that I ever knew what it was and if it would be applicable to the current setup, I have forgotten the solution. I have found numerous posts regarding this issue, but have overlooked the solution if it is included anywhere.

If anyone else has been down this road and knows the solution, I sure would appreciate knowing what it is.

System Specs. are below. I am usieng Onboard Sound.

First question - what changed between the sound working and it stopping working? Second question are you running FSX across 2 systems? I know a few sound issues were adressed in FSX SP2 but I assume you have that (or accelleration) installed? There is also the K-Lite Mega Codec pack that has resolved some sound issues for folks - http://www.filehippo.com/download_klite_mega_codec/

Thanks for the reply PieEater:

I really don't know exactly when it stopped working. In all honesty, I am not sure I really checked it after the current update to the specs I attached which was many months ago. I moved last October, so some measure of fiddling was necessary after that venture (New Internet Supplier rearranging speakers in a new location etc.). I don't know of anything that should have had to do with a loss of Surround in FS though.

I am not now running FS across two systems. Until I updated as mentioned above, I was useing a number of programs on the secondary computer (i.e. PFE/PF2000, etc.). However, on my current setup, the only way I use the secondary computer for FS is to display frequencies and the like which are simply copied files and folders and do not run within FS at all.

I do have FSX SP2 installed as well as the patch for FS9.

I will peek at the K-Lite Mega Codec pack you mention and see what that produces.

Thanks Again!
