March 4, 201313 yr Just bought new computer with Windows 8 and tried to install FS2004 , having previously successfully run it on Windows Vista. Programme installed successfully but when I tried to open it, I get the following message "FS cannot run without a valid Scenery cfg .Uninstall and install. ABORT". I understand that Windows 8 can have problems recognising scenery files as there are several.Has anyone had the same problem and have you been able to resolve it? I am hoping that there is a patch or someone has rewritten a scenery.cfg file that can be downloaded ?.
March 6, 201313 yr Author For all those reading this with the same problem, I appear to have found the solution. On a Microsoft faq I saw that running FS2004 from Desktop and right clicking on icon brings up Run as Administrator. I clicked this and, saints be praised, the game opened OK!! March 7, 201313 yr My solution is go back to windows 7. I purchased 8 pro and although some people have had success, I have not. I could not even get my graphics card to run fs9 or fsx. Runways still flashed and everything no matter what I tried. I should have listened and gone with the tried and true windows 7, which I am going to do. Also, it seems that Microsoft operating systems go in cycles and 8 is in the down cycle. Wait until 9 comes out then try it lol.
