What's wrong with my DX10 configuration

Featured Replies

Hello,

I think I've correctly performed all the instructions under "How-to" (http://library.avsim...ader&CatID=root.Stock ShadersHLSJ folder here:

Finally, the link "settings DX10 testing pics and here" seems broken (blank page) ...

Maybe this is a problem of understanding the guidelines?

Can you help me?

thank you,

No problem with the guidlines.

1). The date on Ryan's (Tabs) PMDG "Nvidia Settings" doc  is January 2012 - fully six months befor Steve released his first patch, and so none of those settings apply to DX10.

2).

One question : what is the difference between the two links (in the "How-to" page) :

Why is this a problem? The first is the patch and the second is the stock shader folder - placed there in case a user hasn't backed up the original folder and needs to revert to the original.

The DX10 Shader Patch v3.2.2 is available at two sites: the Avsim Library and at my DropBox, per page 1 of the How-To doc. The Stock ShadersHLSL folder is linked at the bottom of page 1 with the explanation.

3). Yup - the link to my testing photo's is broken because the I deleted some 500 or more pics from my dropbox, to clean it up! I have no access to that post to change it. Thing is - we are now some nine months into the DX10 evolution, and those pics were made before many of the newer fixes were in place, and so don't mean a lot any more.

As to your installation, you need to copy your fsx.cfg, then rename the copy as "lp_fsx.txt" (or something like that), with a txt extension (so that you can post it here) in your reply, then we can give you an opinion on what changes you need to make. We also need a screenshot of your Inspector settings, and perhaps some info on your cooling system, as 4.3 is not a good match for that 680. The 3930K should be good for a top of 4.4 - 4.5 with good air cooling, and higher than that on one kind of water system or another - there are many out there which will fit the bill. Top vCore voltage should be no more than 1.4 volts, with overclocking done in the bios.

Hope this helps.

I kinda take heed at that statement. There are many, many users running that CPU speed with a 680 and DX9 that have great performance and quality. To the OP, dont feel bad. Ive tested this DX10 thing up and down and have only found less quality and performance than DX9 doing far more tweaking that DX9. With your computer specs, you shouldn't need these DX10 mods to have good performance.

...and likewise - lots of folks here have exactly the opposite experience - and "tweaking" is a good amount of work, and at the same time - knowing what you're doing and why. It's not a guessing game.
