March 21, 201313 yr Can someone look at this and see if there is a problem? It only shows 246MB video ram being used?? I think that is what is shows..Video engine load is 0???
March 21, 201313 yr Not sure what video engine load is? I look at GPU and GPU mem usage. Your mem usage isnt unusual for FSX. Been trying to make a point of that. My GPU usage never gets above 45%.
March 21, 201313 yr Author I'm running FS9 not X. GPU load is 99% and only 246MB memory used when my card has 2 GB?? Should it not use all of the memory or at least most? If it used all the memory then the GPU load would not be as great, no?
March 22, 201313 yr Richy What OS are you running? 32 or 64 bit What springs to mind: GPU-Z figure for GPU load is inaccurate. MSI AB will give a different figure. The video card is not fast/powerful enough to receive and display data from the cpu/RAM ie it is maybe "throttling" the cpu. You do not necessarily use all of the VRAM when you see a gpu load of nearly 100%. The VRAM may be handling the data from the cpu OK but to render the data may be beyond what this particular gpu can do. Unfortunately the GTX 640 is a low end card, but if you are getting smooth visual results ie no stuttering don't worry about the gpu-z figures. pH
March 22, 201313 yr Author I am running 32 bit XP SP3.. I am assuming AB is MB.. I am using Asus MB M2N68-AM Plus with a 3.0Gh dual core processor.. I had a GT7800 GPU installed before with no stutters. When I installed the GTX640OC it was running great up to 60 fps. Now for some reason it has dropped to 27/8 or 12/14 with heavy clouds.. There must be something going on.. It definitely stutters now at the low FPS..Ill post CPUZ maybe that might show something.. Thanks
March 22, 201313 yr Looks like you're GPU limited there. There's always something limiting, so it's not a bad thing per se. On the VRAM usage subject, well, those low end cards with 2GB of VRAM tipically choke well before they can use half of it. Too much VRAM for to little horsepower. If performance is OK, stop looking at graphs and fly If it's not, you'll need to tune down your IQ settings
March 22, 201313 yr Richy MSI AB = MSI afterburner and that will show different results to GPU-Z. It is strange that you saw high fps when you first installed the card and it is now stuttering and has low fps. When you installed the card did you do a "clean" install ie remove all previous drivers. Check in the fs9,cfg that the only entry for a video card is for the GT640. Actually the card you have is a GT 640 nvidia wouldn't give this card the GTX prefix (it possibly has the cheaper RAM) and it may not have enough power to display the sim in the detail that you would like. My recommendation is go to a GTX 650TI or 660TI and think about upgrading to a 64-bit OS. Regards pH
