September 12, 200421 yr Ok guys, I had to reformat my computer, did this last weekend. And on monday I would say I installed FS2004, and it went as normal. SO I restarted my computer and all of that and went into FS and it worked fine. BUt, yesterday I went into start up the game and all it gave me was the FS 2004 startup screen, and that was it. Well after about 5 minutes or so I did the crtl.-alt.-delete button to see what was going on, and what I got was a Not Responding title next to the game. Well when I hit close the good ol' "THis program has encountered an error" and of course I hit the End Now button. I have both service paks from Microsoft and I guess some security updates, that my brother downloaded, also I have gotten a fixed FS9.exe file and still that does not work....Could ANybody please HELP me get back up into MSFS and into the Friendly skies? THanks and Cheers!
September 12, 200421 yr Have you checked to make sure that all of your drivers are up to date? Mother board, sound card, video card, etc. That would be the first thing to check and verify. The next thing to try, if you have not already added a bunch of add-ons, would be to go ahead and uninstall FS9, make sure to delete all of the left over files and then re-install it. If you still have problems make sure that your temperatures are ok and verify that there are no conflicts with any of your hardware in device manager. Also if you have updated your drivers already, are they the same ones that you were running before the reformat? It could be that a newer driver is causing a problem and you would be better off going to an older one. You did not mention why you did a reformat, was there a problem with your system that caused you to reformat?Take care and good luck!Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
September 12, 200421 yr Yeah, my brother decided to reformat the computer cause he could not play his game, even though he has his own computer with it already on it.....I know it is stupid trust me I was pretty hot myself. I should check my drivers, but I am not sure how to. I will go ahead and unistall FS2004, and update my drivers if I can figure it out... I will give y'all an update soon. Thanks for the help, and anymore comments/ suggestions would be greatly appreciated.!!! Thankds and Cheers!!
September 12, 200421 yr The easiest way to check the drivers is right click My Computer, then click properties, click the hardware tab and then device manager. Then you can just click on the plus sign for display adapters then right click on your video card, click properties and then the driver tab, there will be a line that says driver version, write this number down. Repeat for the sound card which will be listed under sound, video and game controllers, and any other pertinent device. Then go to the website of the device and find their downloads section and check the driver version number against their latest driver for your device. Then download if they show a newer version. If you think you need step by step instructions to do this let me know at [email protected] , I am currently in Germany so it may take me a little while to get back to you but I will as fast as I can. Actually, what kind of computer do you have? Do you know what kind of motherboard you have? Then I can pretty much give you a very detailed instruction manual. Please give me as much information as possible including the kind of video card, sound card, etc., at least tell me as much as you know and we can figure out the rest. We will get you running again in no time!Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
September 12, 200421 yr Ok I have fixed it. It was with my drivers thanks for the tip it is working now!! Thanks!
September 15, 200421 yr Thanks for this topic! It's exactly the same problem as I have. But I can't update my sound-card (Soundblaser Creative Live! Value (WDM)) from my Dell Dimension 8200 (my video-card, Nvidia GeForce FX 5700, driver 6.1.7.7, is also up to date). I checked the Dell Support page, but there's no update for my version. What should I check next? Btw, the MS Train Simulator crashes down. I had this problem also this summer after I installed a newer Simwing Scenery and now after installing the newest Lago Scenery. Do they install something special. Thanks a lot for any little help!!! :-wave Roman
September 15, 200421 yr Author Installing things in the flight simulator shouldn't affect train simulator.First, you don't have to go to Dell for updates. You can go to the card vendor's website and get drivers. Have you tried updating the motherboard controller chip drivers, i.e., Intel, VIA, SiS, AMD, ALi, NForce.Do you have all the Windows updates installed?Do you have all the updates for Train Simulator - http://www.microsoft.com/games/trainsimulator/ W.
