What does increased terrain data support mean?

Featured Replies

Just wondering how this helps. Does it affect any existing addons, like fs genesis, or does it open the door to further addons that take advantage of the functionality (whatever it is, hehe)?billg

Currently, FS2004 only supports 38m mesh, while FS2002 did support 19m mesh (BTW, lower is better). Now Microsoft will fix what was most likely a programming error in the FS9 scenery code to once again add support for 19m mesh. This will affect some existing addons: if you look at the FS Genesis website you'll notice they have a few 19 mesh sceneries for sale. Sceneries like VFR Terrain (England) and Switzerland Professional will also look better with the patch (those actually look better in FS2002 than they do in FS2004 currently). Some incorrectly assumed that Microsoft will change the default scenery to higher resolutio. This is NOT the case. It just makes it possible for addon mesh developers to create mesh sceneries equal in quality to those for FS2002.
