September 30, 200421 yr This is just plain nuts, but it's true. Via a trip to my optomotrist this morning and a suggestion from him to try some cheap over the counter reading glasses, I came home and for the heck of it, wore them as I prepared to take off in FS9 in my Super King. Lo and behold.........my 19" LCD monitor ballooned up to 21" (by perception only, of course)......and the glasses imparted a mild parabolic concave curvature to the monitor which added just a touch of depth and 3D effect and when I took off and started the plane moving...... a slight but very noticable feeling of motion ala a full motion flight simulator than some of us enjoyed in Denver. Needless to say, I'm shocked and surprised and my FS9 experience is suddenly and vastly improved. This is total serendipity for me. Maybe some of you have experienced this already, but for $7.00?????Randy Jura, KPDX
October 1, 200421 yr I tried those 3D glasses and they were horrible for me, that is why I am so surprised at what I found with the simple reading glasses. I think it's a slight version of the new BugEye technology which depends at least in part on very large parabolic projections.Randy Jura, KPDX
October 1, 200421 yr Do you own nVidia? Anyway they are just awesome for FS 2004 though required some tweaking to get it right as always with those :( Don
October 1, 200421 yr Hi guys, funnily enough had a similar experience when I changed from glasses (short sighted - without glasses the world takes on a fuzzy appearance) to contact lenses. I'm lucky to have two 21 inch monitors side by side - and a VERY thick, strong wooden desk - with the contacts in the screens seem enormous, if I'm wearing glasses they suddenly seem to shrink by several inches!! This phenomina has MANY uses, but it is very handy for flight sim time !!FredC
October 1, 200421 yr Yes, I did forget to mention that you have to wear the reading glasses OVER contact lenses or it doesn't work. I can imagine that starting out with 21" monitors must be REALLY cool with the glasses!Randy Jura, KPDX
October 1, 200421 yr I can't explain the physiological or neurological responses that accompany putting on glasses after one hasn't worn them before or for some time, but I would be willing to hazard a guess (based on my experience) that this effect will go away after a few short days once your eyes have adjusted to your wearing glasses. The mind can even adapt to glasses that invert one's field of vision. In a study (that I unfortunately can't cite), a pair of glasses that inverted the subject's field of vision were worn for a number of days, and it was reported that upon waking one morning that the subject's mind inverted the view through the glasses so that things appeared right-side-up once again.Moral of the story: Enjoy it like crazy while you can!Kevin
October 1, 200421 yr Yes thank god or we would see everything up and down because that is the way the brain get the image from our eyes. Now I wonder what really tell us that up is up and down is really down? How can the brain know without learning what
