October 5, 200421 yr Hello,it's very interesting to see that the plane I fly as best as I can(A320 PIC) behaves very strange after a six-pack (beer).Speeds are wrong, altitude simply goes up and down without any reason. The Autopilots behave selfish and Glidescope and LOC never kick in correctly. Somehow the MCDU always is doing strange things. In others words, in FS2004 you can very professional simulate the negative effect of alcohol in how much it degrees your brain-power quickly. Things you do all day in FS2004 become extremely hard to handle. Those who haven't made this expirience, ... try it !You can only fell off your chair and hopefully understand why "drink & drive" is a deadly combination in reality ...
October 5, 200421 yr :-lol I tryed IGFLY Tu-154M with vodka before, with mixed results... Lesson to be learned, it is good thing the pilots not drinking while flying :-lolFseevo Samava Luchsheva! (Best Wishes) http://www.x-plane.org/users/ilyushin/flagsjoined.jpgPROUD RUSSIAN CANADIAN!
October 5, 200421 yr Emm. Not sure, but I was able to go on line to VATSIM about a week ago, in concorde, and fly ILS vectors under ATC control and land 3 times (touch and gos) in the middle of busy traffic after having, a full bottle of red wine and 4 ales. I was steaming.I would confess you dont concentrate as much and god forbid you wouldn't do it for real! However, if you have practiced it enough and you can basically fly the thing without thinking then being as ###### as a #### doesn't really matter in the sim.
October 5, 200421 yr I saw a documentary on tv where they tested the effect of alcohol on a real airline crew in a simulator (probably after the first British Airways scandal, there was a another incident where a drunken BA crew was arrested just before their flight here in Norway). The program was pretty interesting. Even after a quite small amount of alcohol the pilots had problems handling emergencies that was thrown at them. I think they got the plane down, but on the wrong runway, and they didn't even notice it. Alcohol basically makes you think slower, so routine flying can be performed to a degree after drinking, but of couse it shouldn't.-
October 6, 200421 yr I've always found it SO much harder to concentrate after a few beers, and glasses of red wine, when trying to fly! You forget the silliest of things: speed settings at certain altitudes, landing lights, belts and smoking signs, to name just a few minor-ish infringements!!! Other times I've been trying desperately to get the bloody thing to FL300 and wondering why it's trying to stall....still got spoilers armed and auto-brakes to 'RTO' settings, and even worse, still with 5 degrees of flap!!!Take-off and landing can be so busy, hectic even, that with even a couple of lagers, you're concentration is gone, and the more you try to focus, the worse it gets...!!!I've NEVER driven a car whilst under the influence, and any pilot who tries to take a plane up after a few needs locking-up....for life...imagine him missing the approach at Heathrow and ploughing into the housing nearby.....(shudders)....Sorry, don't mean to pontificate, but even though I enjoy that buzz, beer and machinery just don't mix...though I guess it's OK in FS9 'cause you can just hit CTRL-PAUSE and avert didaster ;)
