Poskey 777 with JB Panel

Featured Replies

I'm trying to learn the 777 JB Panel and I seem to have some hydraulic faults that I can't figure out.

The attached screenshot shows most everything, but I can't figure out why the center tank is not getting any pressure.

Any suggestions?  Thank you!

Tod

Hi, Tod,

From your screen shot, it appears to me that you should have both electrical and air hydraulics.  Both engines are on, at least one engine bleed is on and the engine generators and buses are on.  The electric and air hydraulic switches are on as well and thus should not have fault lights on in this situation.

Two suggestions:

1) Just reload the aircraft.  Possibly something just didn't initialize correctly.  The fault light under the APU switch, which is off, doesn't look right to me (as well as the above fault lights).

2)  Make sure that you have followed the aircraft.cfg modification instructions carefully in the "readme.txt" file.  Two that may affect hydraulics that Greg Wilson includes in his instructions are:

-------------------
REPLACE the hydraulic_system section with:

[hydraulic_system]
electric_pumps=1
engine_map=1,1,0,0
normal_pressure=3000.000000

Set number of fuel tank selectors to 2:

[fuel]
number_of_tank_selectors= 2

-------------------

There are other modifications involving, flaps, autopilot, etc. that likely will cause problems if not followed.

BTW, this is unlikely to be a source of your issue, but generally the wing tanks are filled first and then the center tanks if necessary.

Hope this helps!

Mike

Tod, I was able to reproduce your issue by changing:

[hydraulic_system]
electric_pumps=1

to

electric_pumps=0

So check that setting (some POSKY aircraft come with it set to 0).

That fixed it, thank you.  I should have checked the .cfg settings per the panel readme.txt.  Thanks for the help.  The panel is pretty amazing.  I had a chance to fly in a 777 Sim at the Boeing Training center and was impressed at how spot on the 777 JB Panel is to the Boeing simulator in function.

Thanks again!

Tod

Curious on the wing tanks filling first comment:  Why are the wing tanks filled first, but the center tank is drawn from first?  Wouldn't you want to fill the tank that is drawn first?

Thanks!

For a free panel, it is really excellent.  The main limitation is in being able to update nav data, as it relies on the data available in FSX, which is quite old, and the approaches are limited.  (Far too much to expect a free panel to have its own updatable data sets!)  This problem can be overcome somewhat by using a flight planner such as FS Commander, which can create a flight plan using current airway, SID and STAR data and save it in FSX format.

How did you get the opportunity to use a 777 simulator at Boeing?  Very jealous!  That must have been amazing!

I'm not sure -- my guess is that it is better to have less weight on the fuselage for landing -- if the wings have a significant amount of fuel left, the weight doesn't fall fully on the landing gear at touchdown as they are still being lifted by the airflow at that point.  Weight of fuel shifts gradually onto the landing gear as the plane slows.  If all the remaining fuel is in the center tanks, no counter force to the full weight of the fuel. There might also be a reason regarding fuel leaks or surprise fuel exhaustion -- have to think about it more.

I'll have to check out FS Commander, thanks for the tip.  I'm guessing it won't allow updates to the STAR DB in the JB 777 FMC.  Is this how it works; load a flight plan from FS Commander into FSX, use that flight plan in the JB Panel 777 FMC?  Is there an easy way to load in a STAR, use on the JB 777 FMC while on approach after finding out what runway you are assigned?

I bought it at an auction; Boeing had donated an hour in one of their full simulators, a few weeks ago I scheduled it in their 777 simulator.  The instructor was awesome, we got in early and ended late; ended up with 3 hours in the simulator.  Two ILS laps out/in of Seattle, two full IFR/ILS approaches into Seattle, one ILS lap out/in of Heathrow, one VFR lap out/in of Reno/Tahoe, all done without the autopilot but using the FMC/FD.  Pretty amazing and all my landings were good.

Yes, you can generate a complete flight plan, including STAR and IAP, in FS Commander.  Sometimes the final approach seems to be missing some fixes but it will get you lined up for the ILS.  I don't believe there really is a separate STAR database for the JB Panel.  I think it just uses the approaches available in the FSX database -- the ones you can choose using FSX ATC.   (It would have been an enormous job for Greg Wilson to have created his own databases.)  You could however save just several STARs or several STARs+IAPs in FS Commander as flight plans and load the one you need when you are assigned a runway.  A bit cumbersome but probably doable.   You could name the flight plans so that you know what they are, for example EGLL-BIG-09L.   FS Commander is a bit rigid in that it won't allow you to modify a STAR or IAP, as far as I can tell, but you can download current data from Navigraph (for a fee).   It is not the most user friendly program I have ever used but it has many capabilities.

So, if the pilots ate meat and I ate fish, and they got sick, I should be able to land OK?? :rolleyes: ^_^  Seriously, still very jealous!

I know the JB panel is excellent for a free one, but I am anxiously awaiting the PMDG 777 which should far surpass most other versions of the T7.

I remember using FS Navigator(?) years ago and was impressed with the SID/STAR DB.  I'll check out FS Navigator.  Maybe I'll just rely on entering in my own STARS from approach charts into the FMC for now...

Yep, if you are pretty good in FS, then you'll do pretty good in the real thing.  Knowing and using the FMC makes a difference.

It was pretty awesome.

Sounds like the PMDG 777 is due soon.  I'll try that out when it comes out, just for the FMC experience if anything.

I think you will find many waypoints missing when you use current charts to write your own STAR/SIDs.   The FSX database is very out of date.  FS Navigator does allow updates using Navigraph or other data services, but it only runs in FS9.  The same author has created FSTramp for FSX but it is not updatable and relies on the FSX database too, so same problem.

I recently came across this link; the author has provided updated waypoints for the default FSX database.  I haven't used it and can't vouch for it, but it might be just what you need.  Looks like you just install the bgl files in the proper directory, restart FS, and there you are!  If it messes something up, just remove the bgl files.

A (female) Delta 767 pilot once told me that if I can follow a glideslope I can land a 767!
