DX10 + Vsync + Multiple Monitors

Featured Replies

Hello All,

i have tearing when i´m using two monitors.

I set 1/2 VSync Refresh Rate in Nvidia Inspector and have the entry in the fsx.cfg

DisablePreLoad=1 in the [Main]

With one monitor it works perfectly!

But with two, Vsync doesn´t work and i have tearing. The only solution is two use D3DOverrider but this is an old fashion tool and it stutters.

Any idea´s?

Thank you

Andreas

Hi Andreas;

What is the native resolution of your monitors, what are you setting in FSX, and are you talking about full screen or windowed?

Hi Paul,

The native resolution of the monitors are:

1. monitor 1920x1080

2. monitor 1680x1050

And this resolutions i set in FSX. I´m talking about full screen, sorry this is an important information i missed.

Thank you

Andreas

Yeah - this is pretty important!!  :lol:

To get the "best" graphics you always need to select the size (in FSX) which matches the monitor - i.e. - one monitor. Running FSX in "full screen" - both monitors - would mean one of these monitors would have to be running at something other than it's native resolution, and I don't think this would be possible without any tearing.

Are you trying to use both monitors as one screen? What do you select in FSX?

(Tearing is caused by the refresh rate not synchronizing with the natural vertical frequency of the monitor. TFT monitors don't really have a vertical refresh rate - it's a hang-over from the old glass CRT monitors which painted the screen differently to our modern TFT monitors, but it's artificially created to display graphics in a similar fashion so that movies, etc., can run on them without modification.)

I know what you mean, when i would make a Dual View and boths screens would be one screen, the 1920x1080 screen will switch to 1680x1050 because both screens must have the same resolution.

But one screen is not what i prefer, because the 1920x1080 monitor shows the scenery and the 1680x1050 monitor shows the panels.

So, in my setup both screens are running at there native resolutions. In the FSX Graphic section both monitors have there native resolutions.

With DX9 this is running without any issue, VSync works. But not with DX10.

But i think you are on something. Maybe it has something to do with the different resolution. I will test this evening, with two identical monitors.

Once again someone is barking up my tree. I have very similar issues and have settled for a single view spanned across three monitors using NVIDIA surround mode for DX10. Before converting to DX10 I was running in DX9 with separate views on each of four 1400x1050 resolution monitors. But I have been unable to get DX10 to do this.

Hello shakeystick,

your issues are truly similar to mine. But in my setup i ignored these erros for now, because the non working VSync is the biggest barrier for me. All my focus is on the VSync issue. ;-)

But, when i read your linked threads it comes to my attention that i have these errors too, but i didn´t notice them until now.

Nowhere in the Web i found any comment to our dilemma. That wonders me, no one in the world with two seperate displays and DX10 working? Hmmmm

Ok, yesterday i made a test with windowed mode.

I set following paramerer  in the fsx.cfg

[GRAPHICS]
ForceWindowedVsync=1

After starting of FSX i quit the dwm.exe (Kostas Blog), and yes in windowed mode VSync is working properly with two seperate displays.

I have tested with FS-SIMtimizer, where you can make the windows borderless. During my tests VSync is working all the time. But other issues are coming to me.

One problem is, that one panel of my NGX goes black, after closing and reopening, it comes up properly. It´s really a pain. With limitations i´m able to running DX10, but this is not what i want.

I would like to use it in Full Screen mode and without all the issues.

Did you test any diferent Nvidia driver? In the moment i´m using 314.22. I will test a 2xx.xx driver this evening, because Nvidia changes something with VSync since 3xx.xx.

Maybe it helps?

Hello Skylon,

  It wonders me also. I am watching for any new information that might help with this "multi-display/multi-view" way of running FSX in DX10 mode in the same way we both apparently did in DX9. Or at least watching for the possibility thereof anyway. I do not have any Vsync/tearing issues at all. I have run the last half dozen or so versions of the Nvidia drivers in FSX with no problems. I also update Nvidia drivers without hesitation. Never ran into a problem at all. But I have also always used identical monitors. So in that respect, at least, your particular Vsync problem has not happened on my system. The only time I even take FSX out of fullscreen mode and into windowed mode is when I want to look at something (task manager for instance) while trying to determine how good (or bad) the program is running. I have to say again that the DX10 shader fix that I found here on Avsim has really improved my FSX experience by leaps and bounds.
