July 11, 200322 yr Does Boeing still have the tooling for the 707 & 727? If they do could I buy a new 707 or 727 for the right price?
July 13, 200322 yr Sir, My dad was the supervising tool/die machinist for Boeing during the B-47, B-52, 707, 727, & 737. He was, therefore, the only quality control inspector for all the tooling, test jigs, cutting/milling tools, and measuring instruments for those aircraft. I can assure you that none of the tooling exists for any of those planes. Hell, some of the buildings they were assembled in don't exist anymore. A lot of the sub assemblies such as landing gear, entire flight deck, engine mounts and nacelles, etc, were built by outside vendors such as Northrop, H.W. Loud, ASTEC, and Swedlow. No, I don't think anything of their tooling exists. Tooling is unique for every plane built and is useless when the producton ends.Glenn
