October 30, 200421 yr Is there a program that can log the framerates in fs9? I want this because I have found that every 9.8nm or so I get a decrease in framerates of about 10 frames per second and it lasts 1.7nm. If I had a program that could log this I could see it more clearly if it could be documentet.
October 30, 200421 yr Have not used it in awhile, but I think FRAPS will do this. I'm sure others will have ideas.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
October 30, 200421 yr You can use Fraps to log framerate. That's what I did when I had problems with the autogen. Then use something like Excel to put it into a graph:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/95993.gif -
October 30, 200421 yr After having done some testing, that programs works great by the way, I got this graph. I think it shows very nicely that something is up. Maybe it has to do with loading of textures, but I'm not sure. I do know that they occur it lasts 1.7nm.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/96011.jpg
October 30, 200421 yr Don't know what is causing your problem but I've got some suggestions on how to go about looking for the source. (You may already have thought of these, but they're here in case you didn't.)1. Turn off sound. You never know, your sound card (or the drivers for it) just might be causing that dip. I know I have problems with my onboard soundcard at times, and not just in Flightsim or games.2. Try flying a fast plane, try flying a slow plane. A slower plane, and a straight course, gives FS's motion prediction system more time to load textures before you get to an area. A fast jet (say an F-14) can outrun the detailed textures on my poor old comp.3. Try flying in different areas. Does it happen if you're flying across the middle of the ocean? What about backwoods country where there isn't a lot of autogen other then trees? What about rural or city areas? etc.4. Check what other programs are running. Programs that automatically check for and/or get updates might be grabbing some CPU time away from Flightsim every now and then. Even Windows might do that. If you're using XP, the Task Manger (Ctrl+Alt+Delete) has a tab where you can watch program's CPU usage. Click the CPU column header till it's sorted highest first. Close anything you don't need. Just because it's not doing anything now doesn't mean it won't be 5 minutes later.5. Try looking into that default.xml problem stuff if you haven't already. (Don't know much about that and haven't messed with that file myself.)6. Are you using real weather? Are you using dynamic weather? Try different weather settings. In short, try just about everything, and keep track of everything you can while doing it. :)
October 31, 200421 yr Okay, I've done some more testing and I'll show you some graphs that I think clearly shows something is wrong somewhere. If you look at the Task manager you can see that my fs9 is running full power in the first CPU and nothing on the second. Until the end where it shows a sudden increase in CPU power on the second...which corresponds to the decrease in framerates shown by the graph. I've turned off all programs that aren't needed so could it be some kind of background service running or maybe something to do with the internet?http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/96112.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/96113.jpg
November 2, 200421 yr The applications tab in Task Manager is the place to try and find out just what programs are using the CPUs. It shows how much CPU usage a particular program is using. (Like WinTop does for Win9x.)
