XP SP2 Upgrade - Screen Freezes

Featured Replies

Hi all,Recently upgraded to XP Service Pack 2. And since then, I get no more than 10 mins per flight. The screen starts to flicker, then a freeze, which requires a hard reboot.Checking the forums, it seems that a few people encountered this sort of problem when SP2 came out, but that was a while ago, and I had hoped things would have improved.Really want to keep SP2 as it's pretty good at helping keep the viruses out.My rig:AMD Athlon 2400 CPUATI Radeon 9500 (not clocked)Latest ATI Catalyst Control Center v 1.0.1733.172.62512 Mb RAMWin XP Home SP2Hope you can help.Richard

Did you check the XP SP2 forum for this problem? If not, give that a go. Does your computer work without a problem if you use any other graphic intensive game or application? As a starter, I would run the directx diagnostic. Press start, run..., type dxdiag, OK. Let the diagnostic stabilize, ensure you are using directx9.0b or 9.0c (preferred). Check the directx page to ensure it shows no problems with all directx files installed. Select the display tab, run the directdraw and direct3d tests and note any errors. You might try downloading the entire DirectX9.0c file and reinstalling Directx.FS2004 - Rename fs9.cfg to fs9.OLD, restart the flight simulator, let it stabilize, and see if the problem is corrected. If so, reset your preferences in the new fs9.cfg. If not, delete the new fs9.cfg and rename fs9.OLD to fs9.cfg.W. Sieffert
