Macbook Pro vs New i5/i7 & GTX 460

Featured Replies

I am currently playing FSX on a late 2011 15" Macbook Pro, its a Quad Core i7 2635QM running at 2.2Ghz. Unfortunately it only has an integrated GPU namely the ATI 6750m 512MB.

FSX runs reasonably well especially with the default aircraft, having the sliders on medium can give me a solid 30fps. However introducing a payware aircraft (Airbus X Extended), and REX will slow it down to an unplayable slideshow (which is to be expected).

I have an old PC that I am thinking about upgrading, new CPU, MB, RAM & PSU. I have a Geforce GTX 460 1GB Graphics card that I am hoping to re-use and I'm thinking about coupling it together with an i5 3570K, New MB and 8GB RAM. Utilising my old graphics card do people expect me to run FSX at a decent enough frame rate to have smooth flights, 30fps+. I am looking to purchase some PMDG products and I am very aware of what they will do to the fastest system.

The other alternative is to get the i7 3770K but not really sure how much this would improve over the i5.

Many thanks for your assistance.
